Got this 2 keep my 2 fence climbing dogs in. Ran wire, setup everything. Plugged in and worked, friend tested it and yes it works. Dogs tried to climb out and it stopped them. So far its doing the job and I'm happy

Did not ground it because it was used inside the barn to keep the LGD puppy in her stall at night. That totally worked and now I'm wondering if I can use it to keep the barn cat from climbing out of the goat pen. Apparently cats can't handle the same shock a dog can. So would it work ok if I didn't ground it? Can't find info on how many watts it delivers grounded or not...

It was easy to hook up and it works. I chose it specifically BECAUSE it says it's low-powered in some of the reviews, because I want to keep the neighbor's dogs from getting on the fence and scaring the grandkids. So far, it keeps them off the fence. But, growing up in farm country, it's NOTHING like the electric fences I remember that trained ME into not crossing certain lines. Touching this makes me uncomfortable, but doesn't hurt. If that's what you want (which is what I wanted), then it will probably work. I give it 4 stars because I'm wondering if it will continue to keep the dogs off the fence or if they'll get used to it and return to bad habits.

This works for smaller animals just fine. It produces about 3KV on my tester and faintly lights up the 4KV bulb. So it works in its rated range.To keep out raccoons, skunks and small animals yes this is perfect. It will protect your gardens and also chickens from small animals. Even foxes. But not bears. I highly doubt this will affect a bear much.What I like is that it just plugs in and has two screws - one for ground and one for hot.What I do not like is that unless you have ring terminals on your wires, this is very hard to get set up. You have to bend the ends of your fence wires around the terminal and then screw it down. Some washers would have been helpful because the plastic screw down terminals are very small on the bottom not giving you much contact with the wires.

Have a poodle that would get out and run run the neighborhood very expensive doll because it’s a miniature poodle. It only took him once to hit that wire to know that he would not try it again to this day six months later I can open the gate, leave it open, and he will not come out of the gate. It is no longer up but But before I used it, I would grab a hold of it and show that it was not that powerful. Sometimes it takes a little Learning that it can’t be your way to fix a problem with a dog not in a humane way did it hurt him at all.
