I worried about some of the reviews but it is awesome. Wanted the wider steps for the dogs. Went from wedding cake steps that grow algae like crazy to these. Water flows through and under.Have two of the Universal Pool Ladder Weights, one on each side of the front and hubby got them screwed down onto the deck the next day and they aren't going anywhere. They don't float - the dogs love them - I love them.

We ordered the 38" steps, it took a little time putting them together, a couple of the pre drilled holes didn't line up but that was an easy fix. My husband put pieces of 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe between the groves and zip tied kettle bell weights to the pvc pipe and frame. We did not fill the steps with sand we just let the water fill them up. The only thing about the steps I didn't like was the handrails are not as sturdy as I would like. I have attached some pictures of the weights on the steps before we put them in the water. We also put a step mat under the steps to protect the liner.

It arrived on time and was very easy to assemble. My husband and I together were able to get it together and put it into our pool. So far it has done wonderful and because it is wider then our old steps there is room for both granddaughters to be on it at the same time.

These are a really nice quality, however, they are really impossible to weigh down. We put in 80lb of sand, and water, and weighed them down with gallon jugs of sand and water. I don't understand all the negative reviews saying they are flimsy. They are solid, and a great weigh for older guest to enjoy the pool...but I wouldn't buy them again based on them floating.

These steps are awesome!!! kids love them, much better than the crappy ladder. didnt use sand, used an epoxy coated 2x4x8 lead brick. Much heavier and less cumbersome. Strapped it on the underside with tie wraps.

The steps are just as advertised. They assembled very quickly. The only downside is for an above ground pool that slopes down toward the center the steps will not work unless you make a spacer. As far as I know mighty steps does not make this but they should.

Now that my money is safely back in my account, I will tell you why you shouldn't even think of buying this product. It is compiled of about $25.00 (and I'm being generous) worth of molded plastic. I should have known when I took it from the box and the identical pieces weren't "identical". The directions say that the plastic steps and risers are supposed to just snap into the rails which wasn't the case at all. I tried to swap out the "identical" pieces just in case there was some magic combination required to assemble them but it was to no avail. No matter what, the thing would not fit together/stay together. It would not support 40 lbs much less the 400 lbs advertised. I feel that the "Mighty Step" is a cheap, dangerous, waste of $260.00! I wish there would have been a review to read before I purchased this product. There were none (MAY 8th) but if there were, I would have never even thought of buying it. Theresa Flynn's review of "Some skill required" I feel is misleading. Theresa Flynn actually altered, drilled into, and screwed it together. Theresa's end result was "not wiggly, but ok" and she doesn't even use them inside the pool. Go with what I and Teresaj are saying; This item is junk! I am also REALLY SUSPICIOUS of M. Barry's review. M. Barry must have received the one good set of steps that the manufacturer put out, or has some sort of inside interest. In closing, I have to say that the "In The swim" people were pleasant and gave me a quick refund. As a pool owner I would still look at them for other products. In saying that, if I were In The Swim, I would discontinue the sales of the "38" Mighty Step for Above Ground Pools"...

This product is heavy-duty molded plastic that is designed to "snap" together with "firm" taps with a mallet. I have a mallet; but taps, slams, begging and pleading wouldn't suffice. The pieces will only fit together if they are perfectly straight -- and about half of the parts arrived warped. Three pieces were severely warped, the others were only slightly bent, but it was enough to cause headaches. I contacted the company for replacements. The gentleman who responded clearly did not speak English as his primary language. After several false starts, it was determined I had to find a box to fit it all into, and ship the whole thing back to the company (somewhere in Mexico?). The original box had been damaged in shipping and was huge, so I had discarded it the day the steps arrived. The company would not provide me with a shipping label. I gave up, went to the hardware store and bought some 12x2 galvanized screws, drilled pilot holes and screwed the whole thing together as best as I could (not one of the footpads would go on, nor could I screw them in place, so they are mostly held in place by the weight of the unit). The handlebars are a bit tricky, as it is nearly impossible to see or hold the back end of the bolts as you are inserting them. I found that a socket wrench proved handy here, to secure the nut on the back as you place the bolts. The end result has plenty of gaps, but is sturdy overall.Note: I used the steps on the outside of the pool to get into it, not on the inside of the pool, as they are designed to be used. Apparently you need to load the thing down with 50 pounds of sand if you use it inside of a pool, something I was not aware of when I ordered the steps. I did not add sand to the handlebars as instructed. Given that I had to screw it together, one could assume a certain amount of rust if used with water.Customer service gets one star, design gets two, but the assembled unit is "okay" -- not wiggly, sturdy enough to feel comfortable getting up and down on. I do like the high handles, which allow me to hold something as I swivel over the edge of the pool. The treads on the unit got dirty quickly and have not come clean no matter how often I rinse them off with the garden hose, but then they are outside and exposed to the elements, so I didn't think they would stay factory fresh. I would not recommend the similar unit with a narrower tread. This one feels secure because of its width -- not sure the smaller model would be as steady.
