Very good series. Each book includes a very good well developed story as well as a global story for the entire series.

I have enjoyed Porter’s book so far but there is one thing I wish for. Each book needs more careful editing. There are many places where the wrong word appears and interferes with the flow of the sentence. Perhaps the author needs to turn auto editing off on his computer. Either that or the publisher needs to hire editors. I’ll still read these books because they are good stuff.

Pulls you in from the beginning, middle and end.. Great story, fast pace and well defined characters. Kept me guessing which is always welcomed in a thriller. Don't hesitate to read this, the author is an amazing writer and I look forward to reading more of his books.

Was exciting from start to finish. Never a dull moment. The characters were well thought out and the knowledge of police procedurals did not disappoint.

Predictable police procedure. I have grown weary of the women as targets with gratuitous torture and rape. The author pulled out all stops describing these events. Just couldn't enjoy the characters

If you haven't read any of the Mersey Murder Mysteries, you're missing some great reads. Book 8, A Liverpool Lullaby, is no exception and is easily read as a standalone. What intrigued me most, besides the search for a killer who took his victims' hearts and played a tape of lullaby's as he was killing them, was the interplay between the characters of the Merseyside Police Special Murder Investigation Team. The glimpses into the back stories of each of these detectives makes me want to go back and read each prior book. There's one scene in particular that is quite emotional and that both shocked and touched me toward the end of the story. I won't give this away, but I highly recommend this book and the series to anyone who enjoys a good police procedural with great characters and fast-paced action. It reminded me of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct Mysteries.

D.I. Andy Ross and his squad explore the case of a female corpse with her heart taken out. Ross and company are up against a felonious brain, aka ‘the Doctor.’ A spooky song was left playing on an old tape recorder beside the deceased, and the signs clearly show there were passionate nuances between the murderer and the victim. While the Doctor hones in on his next target, Ross and company become bogged down, finding more victims.Author Porter has written another intense thriller that will clutch hold of you. The characters’ personalities are done brilliantly and to the point where one will feel you know them well when done reading. The narrative moves quickly and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is an action crammed mystery that Author Porter has developed expertly with astonishing twists up until the end.

Having read all the previous books in the series, I was wondering if the author could possibly come up with something different in his latest installment in the series. Wow, he certainly did that alright! A Liverpool Lullaby is a terrific read which differs from the previous books in the series, as DI Ross and his team identify the killer quite early in the book. The big problem is, the man they seek, nicknamed 'The Doctor' is like a ghost. He seems to be operating completely 'off the radar' and nobody knows how or where to find him. With Sergeant Izzie Drake on maternity leave, Ross leans heavily on Acting DS Derek McLennan and his new DS, Fenella Church as the team needs all their specialist skills to try and locate the sadistic, twisted murderer. Be prepared for a tense and gripping read with a real shocker of an ending. Took me by surprise and I can thoroughly recommend the book to followers of the series and new readers alike. I love DI Andy Ross and his team, who are all so real and believable and easy to identify with, as they develop more and more as the series progresses. Definitely a 5 star read.

A Liverpool Lullaby, the eighth story in the Mersey Murder Mysteries series, takes Detective Inspector Andy Ross and his Specialist Murder Investigation Team beyond the realm of anything they have so far investigated. The perpetrator, who comes to be known as the Liverpool Lullaby Killer, offers this squad of supreme detectives a chance to live up to their reputation of solving cases beyond the scope of the regular Criminal Investigations Department.DI Ross’s team is peopled by the best investigative officers Liverpool has to offer. All have been chosen by DI Ross according to their experiences with previous cases and duty performances. DI Ross’s Specialist Team requires those astute and critical types of officers. Especially with what they are faced with in this crime. The perpetrator this time is educated and smart, yet slippery, deranged and brutal. He’s also out of control.I have read all of the Mersey Murder series stories and am always ready for another featuring this incredible crime solving group of hot-shot detectives. The intensity of this, the eighth story, took me by surprise. The author has built this story full of shock and unexpected action right up to the ending where I was almost screaming, “No-o-o-o!” Yet, at the same time, cheering how this team puts an end to this perpetrator. That is, unless he can beat his rap. This perpetrator is so sly, he even knows how to get around the law.A Liverpool Lullaby is the most intense case DI Ross has handled making for exciting reading. The author takes huge leaps in writing his stories, making them edge-of-your-seat nerve-wracking. If you’ve been following this series because you love mysteries, don’t hesitate to jump into this one.

Good book ruined by many errors. Perfect example in the last chapter Nick Dodds became Nick Ross twice!! Maybe find a new proof reader. Bloody hell seems a shame that a good writer has this done to his work.

I don’t read police/crime thrillers, but having read and enjoyed a novel in another genre by this author I decided to give it a go. The fact that I finished the whole book quite easily because of its readability is a tribute to the author’s talent. Aware that nothing is straightforward when reading Brian Porter’s books, I found myself waiting for ‘the twist’. When it came, it rocked me. I really wasn’t expecting that. The serial killer in Liverpool Lullaby is so hateful that I couldn’t wait for the very convincing Murder Squad to get their man. What this writer does is not just enter into the criminal psyche but also portray the lives and work of the police so realistically that I wouldn’t be surprised if he confessed to having worked on the force. As far as I know, he didn’t, which makes this book even more remarkable. Highly recommended.

Andy, with able assistance from all the team of the Special Murder Team encounter a demented murderer. His first victim is a woman who has been raped, beaten and asphyxiated, then had her heart cut out of her breast. A second victim follows within days having been even more brutally treated by the murderer. The team, through some slogging, one person to the next, to the next, in a series of revelations, finds the name of the killer, and the chase is on. His home, the place where he has done his foul deeds is discovered, a search made of the premises and more than ample proof of the murders obtained. Meantime our murderer has another woman ready to dispatch. Having done horrible things to her he begins to run, knowing the police are onto his antics. Will they catch him? Read on, buy the book, get the answer. It is well worth the price and time, is impeccably written by a wonderful author, and the chase scene is exciting in the extreme, following the scintillating investigation. An easy five star read for anyone.
