Keep the original hardware, because the Phillip’s head bolt in the package will not fit. Reuse the original and you’ll be in good shape.

The metal stem construction is a plus over the plastic one that came with my original stem. It took me a while to figure out why the handle would not go onto the new metal stem. I realized the new stem mounting screw head was too large and blocked the handle from sliding onto the splined stem. So I discarded the new screw and used the old screw (with properly sized head) and was able to finish mounting the handle.

This worked great after the cheap original design of plastic broke.

Excellent upgrade to the cheap plastic stem that came with the factory valve!

My existing shower valves are no longer made even though they are less than 15 years old. Finding a replacement that fits into the holes drilled into the shower has proved to be much harder than it should be. They came preinstalled with the shower/tub from MAAX. MAAX couldn't offer me any help (will never buy anything from them again) when the brass handle that came with a lifetime warranty started to oxidize. The shafts are an odd ball spline so I'm trying to convert them over to a brand I know.I've tried a couple of these and for one reason or another I couldn't make them work. But this one fit just fine. It did require a bit of modification so it didn't slip. Being brass made it much easier to work with then plastic or stainless.

Whoever built my son's house set the plumbing wayyyy too far behind the tile in the shower, so the proper valves don't extend far enough to attach both the handle and the vanity ring behind it. This elegant little extension, once cut to size, fixed the problem quickly and easily.
