Thick metal, yes, but awkward to use with handle, which totally has little everyday purpose - the item discolored immediately on the glass top electric cook surface. I will return this as "not as expected"

Does what it says if you use it on electric or gas stoves. On induction stoves, the performance is horrible. The plate heats up, but since it can't conduct heat into the pot sitting on it very well, and it's flat on the glass, the stove will constantly shut itself off for safety reasons, leading to a very long cook time. A Moka Pot base will take 17 mins to boil water @ 1800 W, and it uses more power than an electric stove without the plate.**However, if you put A LITTLE BIT OF MINERAL OIL BETWEEN THE PLATE AND THE POT, that boil time goes down to UNDER 5 MINS at 1800 W.**My electric stove takes 6.5 mins on high, for comparison. Anyways, this highly depends on the bottom surface of the pot being flat, although it can be rough, as my Moka Pot has circular ridges on the bottom.Note, I haven't tried using a spacer to keep some distance between the induction stove surface and the plate, which may help in putting more heat into the plate early on without triggering safety shutoffs on the induction stove, but at the very least, the oil really helped with transferring the heat from the plate to the pot. You could probably use a different oil, too. Water is technically more thermally conductive, but it tends to boil off, shoots hot droplets sideways, and it doesn't go higher than 100°C while the water is still there. It's worth noting that this technique will likely help with electric and gas stoves too, but they don't have to worry about the plate getting too hot too fast, and in my tests, it didn't improve the cook times all that much.

We bought a new ceramic top stove and I was concerned that my cast iron and older cookware would scratch the surface. Some of my older Revere ware had hot spots. This product solved both issues. I dropped one star because it became really discolored after the first use but the seller mentioned that it could happen. It's not pretty but works well.

We purchased this to allow us to use non-compatible cookware with our induction plate. It could not transfer enough heat to boil water in a small pot. We kept it because it could be useful for slow cooking, but it's not very useful.

It doesn't do the job, it's not worth the money since its too thick, Ii have a high power induction stove top but takes forever to boil even a pot of water , my regular electric burner cooks faster than my high power induction stove.

Works perfectly to keep using your non induction pots and pan. Always have your pot on top before switching on the stove.

This thing doesn’t work at all. I tried it underneath my big soup pot and it heated the water to 147*. No matter what I out on it, it would not heat the water up at all. Then, I tried a smaller pan (induction ready) and it heated up nicely boiling like mad. In case I was dealing with operator error, I gave it to a friend with an induction burner and she found that it would not heat water even to a simmer. Very disappointed.

Ok, Heres the deal, switched to induction 2 years ago and like it better than my $6000 DaCar Convection Stove propane cooktop but this isn't a review of induction. I have stainless pans by Caphalon, Al-Clad and Cuisinart that I had prior that did not work on induction. With this plate they all now get hot and boil water. It's not induction cooking but more like to old electric coil cooktops. Now my wok will never be right for stir frying with this plate but it sure will work for steaming.... Temperature change times both increase and decrease are slower and overall time to heat to temp is slower, BUT DAM IT WORKS and I can use $150 pans that I couldn't before. The 6 quart Al-clad sauté pan ( my go to for spaghettis sauce and chili) is awesome and works just as it does on the Dacar propane stove. Now I would NOT say this is a perfect solution, as some pans will have limited ( fine sautéing and precise frying and I'm never going to melt chocolate with this plate ) use, but as I said they are out of the garage and back in the kitchen and work satisfactorily. Now IF these were pans I used more frequently Id buy induction pans PERIOD.ALL in ALL, I was shocked at how well it worked and would say I'm very pleased. I only gave it four stars on heat distribution because of the increase time, but in my so far limited use it seems to be fairly even over the entire pan bottom as frying some burgers worked fine !!!!If you have induction and pans that don't heat this worked well for all of my pans that did not work on induction. I am pleased enough that this is the first time in my years of using AMAZON that I have bothered to write a review.Good job!Tom

The handle is misleading! Do NOT attempt to move heated cookware by lifting the handle, not sturdy.
