About this item

  • 【Product Size】Drilling diameter:89mm | 3-1/2", Hex Shank Dia.: 12mm | 15/32", Drilling depth: 60mm | 2-3/8", Total length: 94mm | 3-11/16", for hardwoods choose the corresponding size, for softwoods choose a size smaller by 0.2-0.5mm
  • 【High Quality】Positioning drills and blades are made of YG8, hardness ≥ 91HRA, bending strength up to 2200N/cm2, resharpenable. The shank rod is made of No. 45 steel, heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant. After quenching, the hardness is extremely high, effectively avoiding shank bending during use
  • 【2.00mm Super Thick Blade】Adopts industrial grade 2.0mm thickness YG8 blade, which extends the service life by 10 times compared to 1.3mm thick blade
  • 【3 Flute Design】The drill has 3 support points, making it easier to position and cut smoother compared to 2 blades, effectively preventing skewing and burning the wood. It is very user-friendly for beginners
  • 【Note】 The drilling process needs to be kept vertical and it is recommended that a tool such as a vise be used to keep the material stable so that a smooth, accurately sized hole can be obtained. Set slow drilling speed till the drill bit is completely located, then gradually accelerate speed. The rotational speed is controlled at 2200~2500RPM for better effect
  • 【Widely Applications】 The Forstner hole saw is perfect for wood, plastic, plywood, solid wood boards,MDF,plastics, furniture, door hinge, desk, etc.Note: Can not drill metal and non-ferrous metal
  • 【Warm Tips】For large-size Forstner drill bits (≥60mm), it is best to use machines with good fixation performance for drilling operations, such as drill presses, bench drills, vertical drill presses and vertical electric drills, etc. If you must use a hand electric drill to operate , be sure to use a high-power electric hand drill, and it is best to use it with a vise with good fixation effect. Otherwise, good hole opening effect will not be achieved

I got this to bore holes into logs to make Swiss candles and things like that. I have smaller spade bits but they are a pain to use and don't do a great job at cutting larger holes. I got a bigger one (2-3/4") and it really bites into the wood. Two things: ensure that whatever you are cutting into is secured (ie clamped or braced) well because this thing grabs hard. Second, make sure your drill has what it takes, I have a big corded electric drill that has a side handle to keep my arm from twisting off so make sure you brace it or use it in a press. I found going slower and bracing the wood and using my second handle was enough for me but it's a workout. The end result is very nice.

This forstner bit is the most impressive of the variety I've tried. Provided pictures are what the bit will do on a drill press and with black cherry burl. Almost no effort necessary to create a very clean hole. The pilot center doesn't create a huge divot or much extra damage at the bottom of the hole. Multiple holes in black cherry and curly maple offered the same resistance, meaning it's cutting well and staying sharp. My only problem with this bit is that it's so nice that I now want many more sizes.

This Mollom 2 1/2" (64 mm) bit is an awfully good bit for the price. It's a triple flute carbide tipped forstner bit, and it's nicely priced. They didn't spare the steel; this is a heavy pattern bit that has a hex shank for firm grip in the drill chuck. I've reviewed several forstner bits as an Amazon Vine member, and this stands out as the best so far. For the price it is an excellent value.

I got this Forstner bit because I need to drill a 25mm deep hole for a treehouse attachment bolt in a live tree. I tested the bit on a dry pine 2 by 4 using my Milwaukee M12 brushless drill. The Chuck is just large enough to hold the bit, but it definitely lacks the power to go much deeper than what you see in the test pictures. The bit is probably best used in a powerful drill press, and I imagine if you press it down slowly, you should get a clean hole. It is difficult to get a clean hole by hand because there is no pilot drill do help keep the bit level. I think the bit seems to be good quality for the price. I would have likes it to be slightly sharper and less aggressive so it could be slightly easier to use in a hand drill, but my use case isn't exactly typical. I took of one star because it was having trouble making a clean hole and I wish the center tip was slightly longer. Overall, I still think it is a good value, especially if it is used with the proper tool. If you are going to use it with a hand drill, an 18 - 20V drill is necessary and a more powerful chorded drill would be even better.

This review is for the 3 5/8 inch carbide tipped fostner bit. It is sharp and cuts a clean hole in oak and didn't seem to get hot. It was ready to use vs. many steel forstner bits I have gotten needed honing. I like that it will stay sharp a long time. I didn't like that it made a lot of dust and few chips. Most forstner bits I own make more chips than dust which makes for a cleaner shop. The excess dust may be because I had to feed it very slowly because it would bog down my drill press if I put much pressure on it. My drill press is 3/4 HP and I was running it at 250 rpm.

I have been a hobby woodworker for about 35 years. I build furniture and stuff for friends and family. I don't do anything for $. I ordered this bit because my collection of Forstner bits stops at 1 3/4". I chucked it into my drill press and cut a shallow hole in a piece of scrap plywood. The bit cuts cleanly and the hole is flat bottomed. I measured the hole diameter at 2.007".The bit came packaged in a cylindrical plastic container with screw top as shown in photos. As received it was out of the container but was not damaged. This will be a good addition to my collection of Forstner bits.

This 1 inch or 25.5 mm three fluted carbide Forstner bit has precision ground edges that make a very smooth bottom. I found the cutting speed to be as fast or faster than conventional Forstner bits. The carbide handles hardwoods and soft woods with ease. The size is precise, and the welding quality on the carbide is very good. I found the size of the hole to be precise. My 1 inch hole measured 1.006 inches. I also found this bit to be easy to use with a handheld drill where a conventional bit does not work so well without a drill press. I do wish that they included a recommended RPM speed or optimal bit usage in drill presses, but the carbide is more forgiving than a conventional bit. The sharpness and longevity expected from this carbide bit makes the extra cost an exceptional value as you will not need to sharpen it for a very long time.

I have used forstner bits for cutting lots of holes and have learned that the better the tooling is, the happier I am. I picked out this particular bit because it matches the recess that I usually need to cut into cabinet doors. This is undoubtedly the most used forstner bit that I own. Carbide tooling is very useful when used correctly. For example, it is usually the wrong choice for any hand tool since maintaining adequate feed pressure is difficult or impossible. Even in smaller machine tools that can be the case. However, for cutting into wood using a drill press at the correct speed, it can be an excellent choice. The bit that I received is one of the better examples of tooling that I have recently gotten from China. It arrived cleanly brazed, correctly ground, and wicked sharp. I have no doubt that I will use it for many years to come.Bottom line: For bits that see a lot of use, spending a few dollars more for a quality, carbide-tipped bit can make a lot of sense. The expected increase in longevity and cutting efficiency should easily make this a good investment for anyone that needs the capability. This particular example is impressive and a great example of the sweet-spot for this type of tool!
