When it arrived, the label said "800Mbps PCI-E card" but the photo was of a WiFi wireless card and the description on the back was also of a wireless PCI-E card, but the contents of the box were exactly what I ordered. So after a bit of "why would you put the photo and a text of a wifi card on a box that's supposed to be a 1394 firewire card... really, you couldn't pay the money for even a sticker to go over the wifi card photo?"But after getting over my confusion over the box photo and text and the box's contents, I installed the card into my computer, booted up Linux Mint 22.1 and the card worked right away and connected immediatable to my Sony MiniDV camcorder. I'm trying to archive the tapes to MP4 and I just installed "dvgrab" (with "sudo apt install dvgrab") and that was it. It just worked with the command "dvgrab " I had no issues with anything. It's pulling through without issues, the cable seems good, and there were no driver issues or any problems at all.

After installing this product on a Windows 7 machine, I attempted to boot the machine twice. On the first attempt, it froze after the Windows splash screen. On the second attempt, I got the Blue Screen of Death as pictured. I uninstalled the device and the machine then booted normally. There is no documentation whatsoever included with this device, thereby making tech support non-existent.I cannot recommend this device.

This was a disappointing purchase. From the reviews, it seemed I had found a card that would work on a (semi-)modern system. The system will not POST when this card is installed.

I own a 20+ years old Song DV camera which it has lots of good memory in the tapes. Amazing the older release products, no rust, no mold and all are running like the first day no matter I stored them in harsh environment (garage, basement....)! I planned to backup all the tapes in digital format as a 2nd backup and editing later. Bought this 1394 card, which it is great price, come in a seal box, with a cable, form fit, all plug and play in Win10, then all work great! FYI - the only roadblock for me is found a software interface with the 1394 Sony old product, if you are looking for it, try Vegas. HappyDaddy! Highly Recommended!

I needed to digitise 7 Digital8 tapes to keep them as a backup - this card was easy to install and worked perfectly with my old Sony Camcorder. Very happy with it!

Installation is easy for person who had installed any cards into desktop in past. Use it to connect old Sony DV cassette video camera. Bought this card to convert the cassette video into digital format. Had to buy software to connect to the camera. Card was detected by pc and Sony camera was detected by video editor software. So far there are no issues with the card.

Nice and small and plugs right into an expansion slot-riser. Windows 10, 21H1 recognizes the card on first boot with no extra drivers necessary. This comes with a 2' Firewire 400 4-pin to 6-pin cable.I connected my Sony DCR-TRV30 with this cable and my computer recognized the camcorder right away. It showed up in my device manager console.I tried capturing a video with VirtualDub but the audio was not working right. Then I remembered that WinDV was the app to use. I downloaded version 1.2.3 and it captured my video and audio to an AVI file flawlessly. The AVI video is encoded in dvsd (Sony) compression, and the audio is in 16-bit, 48 KHz, stereo PCM format. Video to audio ratio is approximately 20:1. A 1.5 hour LP tape translates to about 20 GB of file size.I am very happy with this setup as it allows me to copy my 20 year-old mini DV tapes and preserve them in digital format so I can edit them any which way I want. If you are looking for an easy solution to converting your mini DV tapes to a computer file in Windows, this card will do it. I highly recommend this product, and thank Amazon for carrying such a specialized piece of computer hardware. One caveat: when I looked at the picture of this card I did not see a VIA chip on it. The one I received did have a VIA chip so it was instantly recognized by Windows 10 without the hassle of looking for legacy drivers.
