I use utility knives and needed a good reliable ruler. I went through a few. The ruler I really liked was the metal edged clear ruler so I can see underneath while cutting, but the metal strip didn't hold well. I was hesitant to get a full metal one, but ultimately got this set, since acrylic rulers are too slick on paper surfaces, and I inadvertently and easily slice up the edges, making the straight even edges uneven. So far, they work fine. The cork bottom is especially helpful to hold steady while cutting, and of course, the metal edge protects itself from the blade. While I miss the ability to see through the ruler, these are more reliable and hold up better than acrylic. I like that it's a set, so I can keep the larger one at my desk, and the smaller one in my bag.

If you need a ruler that will not move, this is the one. The cork keeps everything still and lifts the ruler slightly off the item. They work great!

I got this because the cork backing doesn’t slip as easily when I’m using it as a straight edge for cutting stained glass. It’s a metal ruler, not sure what else to say-it’s not flimsy?

I find with the cork backing very sturdy and I will say that I have bought at least 4 or 5 of them and they keep disappearing. Worth the money spent; I just need to be able to keep up with them better.

These are just good all-round rulers, and it's good to have them in different lengths for serious measuring and straight-edge needs. I also have an 18" version that is invaluable. They also stay in place nicely on paper or fabric, if you are using them with a rotary cutter.
