This is a basic item - The 'paper' ribbon is plently strong enough for wrapping gifts. (However, do not use for wrapping packages for shipping!!!). The spool of ribbon arrives wrapped in plastic -- Do NOT remove this plastic wrapping, instead, use the free end of the ribbon found inside the spool and draw from the center. The plastic wrap keeps the spool intact and prevents unwanted unraveling. (As you might have gathered, the 'spool' of ribbon is not wound around an actual spool or core, it is simply wound on itself, creating a spool) Regardless of all this unwinding discussion - this is a nice natural (khaki colored/light brown) ribbon for wrapping. I also understand that this can be used for other crafting projects but I'm unable to comment on the merits of this raffia for these other uses.

I use raffia for crafts and gift wrapping. This is nice raffia and lots of it for a great price!
