I actually use this to measure inside diameter for plumbing. I added a small set of calipers to the set to het my exact measurements but it is a extremely handy set to have for someone who needs exact measurements for inside diameter tubing or pipes! they are durable and I am sure that as long as I keep them lubricated hey will last a lifetime!

I am not a machinist or tool inspector, and I doubt that a professional would rely on low-cost gauges like this. I ordered them for use in my basement workshop to measure those occasional deep holes, counterbores or other hard-to-reach inside dimensions. Accuracy to a few thousandths of an inch is plenty for me, and I think these gauges will be suitable. The telescoping gauges come in a plastic pouch, and the “business ends” are wrapped in some oily corrosion protection paper. I left the oily paper there because my basement can get humid. As a test, I used one of the gauges to measure the inside diameter of a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe. I expanded the telescoping gauge inside the pipe, made sure it was aligned squarely and then turned the handle to lock it. I then retracted the gauge and measured the length using my dial caliper. That measurement matched a direct measurement of the bore with my caliper within 0.002 inches. I think that’s all I could ask for measuring a piece of plastic pipe. This is a handy set of gauges at a really low price. You’d pay $300 for the equivalent set from Starrett. These will serve you well if you’re looking for some gauges to give a rough measurement, and don’t need the precision of the name brand gauges.
