Before the gold and silver melt, borax should be placed at the bottom of the bowl to prevent the gold and silver from melting and sticking to the bottom.
The melting bowl is easy to absorb moisture, and it is preheated and gradually heated before use to prevent water from chilling and bursting.

These crucibles are perfect for small jewelry castings where you are melting small amounts of metal for rings or cabochon backs. I like to make my own jewelry as a hobby, and this set of crucibles is perfectly sized for what I need. I like that this pack comes with 5 sizes and a pair of tongs. The size makes them very easy to work with when using small butane or propane torches. Each crucible has a pouring spout with is also nice for directing your pours easier, as I have some older ones that don't have that.Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of this set. It's priced very competitively for the number of pieces that you receive, so I would definitely recommend.
