I ordered this kit of 5 lasers and sensors rather on a whim. I’ve always wanted to experiment with lasers and so now it became suddenly possible. I was more interested in the laser modules than the sensors. The devices were delivered in ESD protected bags. No documentation was provided and even an online search didn’t provide much help.On the laser diode transmitter board, there are three pins labeled cryptically as “S”, (blank) and “–“. Some users connect the “S” and “–“ pins to a 5V supply, others connect the middle and “-“ pins to the supply and use the “S” pin to switch the device on and off from a MCU like an Arduino. My system uses 3.3V and I just connected this to the “S” and “-“ pins – and it worked! A well-focused red dot was produced that could be projected a few hundred feet.The receiver sensor appears to be just a photo transistor with a few resistors. The Amazon listing implies that it’s best used in the dark so its application is not specific to detecting laser beams.I’m not sure what I’m going to be doing with this new-found power I have but I’ll probably install some mirrors around the house to scare off burglars and kids at Halloween.
