The housing is well made and attractive. The electronics worked well. But mounting a drive is very poorly designed and there are no instructions if the designers actually have a way they think it could work.

Made in China. Ordered from Amazon.co.uk for UK use - arrived with American Style ( 2 prong) 12V AC "Model 1225" power supply that I will have to substitute with a UK 3 prong 12VDC 240VAC version - hence extra expense for an already expensive item.1m Data cable supplied doesn't give a lot of flexibility for siteing the fairly bulky case on your desk. The case itself is fairly bulky and while it does contain some aluminium alloy there is a lot of plastic to the casing.I am disappointed with this product and regard the name of "Aluminium Alloy" as frankly misleading.I would normally have returned it but as I am housebound and was unable to easily visit a Post Office or collection point I am stuck with it. Lesson - do not be seduced by misleading descriptions! There is a better external 5.25" optical drive case available on Amazon I have previously purchased and it is £10 cheaper and does actually have a silver coloured full metal jacket and comes with a UK power supply.!

This is a pretty basic external case for a CD/DVD drive. Plastic and steel. Not the best quality, not the worst. Does what it needs to do. But not worth the price if you ask me.

This worked fine to add a drive to my system to save off files that had been stranded on the old drive after it was retired from a different computer. The unit is rather large and clunky, kind of like an old style disk drive is I guess, but it worked well for what I needed to do. Nice to be able to retrieve the old retired file set that was on the 5.25" disk.

I'm still old school apparently as I like have an optical drive. It was pretty hard to find a modern case that supported having external optical bays, I got the Fractal Define R5 base. Originally i bought a 280mm AiO but it had problems keeping my i9-14000kf cool, so I upgraded to a 420 cooler which means i had to remove my 2 optical drives....Instead of buying a brand new external optical drive, I opted for these bad boys. Now i can swap out the device should i need an upgrade or replacement.I really wanted something that supported both USB & eSATA, I just like having the native port (sata) that was designed for the drives. If I had to make 1 complaint, I wish the power button on was more towards the front. When I power off my PC, these drives are still running and how i have them positioned on my desk, its a bit of a pain to reach behind them to power them off.Oh... these do not come with instructions, learn from my mistake, remove the screws from the bottom cover, not the top. To secure your object, you need access to the base to be able to screw in the locking screws.

I have tried this on two different PC's using the USB cable. A Windows 10 and 11. The USB ports were USB 3.1 gen 2 ports and are capable of up to 10Gbit/s. The drive lists that it can read at up to 16x, which matches the speed of the install Blu-ray drive (ASUS bw-16d1ht), but it is only reading at 2x.I've spent a couple hours trouble shooting and cannot resolve the issue.

Clunky and awkward. To mount a drive, you need to remove 8 screws, four in each cover, then remove the covers. The covers are metal, steel from the feel of them. Tiny screws. Then push out the removable end cover, slide in the drive, anchor it with 4 more screws in the bottom (provided). No instructions are included, so I can see how the one-star reviewer missed the retaining screws. (Must have wondered what they're for.) That's 12 screws to hold the thing together! Now hook up the SATA cables, remount the covers and it's ready to cable up.Too bad they only include a USB3 cable, and NOT the eSATA cable. Had they provided this cable, along with a bracket for mounting an eSATA port your PC in this might have been a better value. You'll need to provide this to use the more robust SATA option. If you're building a PC and you want to include your old Bluray burner, this is about the only way to go, as today's cases are pretty much not including a bay for them. But hide it under something, as it's not much to look at when it's assembled. Looks a lot better in the photos. At least it's functional, if not aesthetic.
