Use of polisher RPM

Set the polisher's RPM

Too high RPM will create excessive heat that will result in white resin pads smearing on the stone. In other cases, it will even burn the stone itself. As a rule, for 50-100-200 grit pads use 2000-2500 RPM and with 400-800 grit pads use 3000-3500 RPM. If you want to compensate for the loss of RPM, you can always add an extra pass. Never use above 5000 RPM.

Engineered Stone Polishing with Confidence: 8 Tips

  1. Grind wet. Wet grinding eliminates the damage to stone-polishing pads.
  2. Judge dry. If the surface is wet, scratches can pass unnoticed.
  3. Use the whole wheel. Stop using only the middle of the pad.
  4. Skip no grit. It’s always faster to do it right the first time than to try to take shortcuts and risk damaging the stone you’re working on.
  5. Polish slow. Keep the speed of the pad low for the lower grits #50 #100 #200 (~2000-2500 RPM) and go to higher speeds for higher grits #400 #800 (~3000-3500 RPM). Never use the pads at higher speeds than 5000 RPM.
  6. Keep it clean. A good way to ensure every single part of edge is polished is to wipe the edge surface with gently squeezed wet cleaning towel and then polish dry.
  7. Believe what you see. If your eyes tell you that something is not quite right about the surface, stop! Figure out what the problem is before continuing.
  8. Be patient. Polish a little and look a lot. This is the mantra for successful results in the polishing process.
Before and After
Choosing the right Pads for your project

We noticed during the time many customers who think all pads are the same and they are exactly the customers that have trouble during the polishing process. There are colored pads on the market that can reach good quality polish, but often they require more time and sometimes they even transfer the pads color onto the stone by the end of the process. Our recommendation is to use white resin pads.

Polishing Project

Lower Grits - remove scratches

Use the polisher initially at low speed (1500-2500 RPM) and then increase its speed slowly for faster polishing suitable for specific stone. Skip no grit and start polishing the material edge with side-to-side motion from the top half of the pad to the lower half of the pad. Do not move to the higher grits until you find a smooth surface that is free from all saw marks or old sealant.

Higher Grits - achieve shiny finish

With higher grits (400, 800), add more water and increase the RPM to 3000-3500 to avoid burning your stone’s surface.

Update: while I did not like the quality of this product for concrete countertops, the company did issue me a refund. Maybe better for other projects but not ours.Original comment: Terrible quality! We bought these for our concrete counters and they were useless. Company should issue refund.

Used to polish hydraulic cement used to repair driveway cracks. Coarse ground the repairs to flush then used the 50 grit diamond pad to remove grinder swirls.

I use these to smooth glass. They work well and are durable.

Was building a custom counter for the printer stand in our bonus room, It was shaped like the outline of the stealth bomber and after getting quotes for $1000 from local kitchen shops, I went off to find a DIY solution. I bought a granite table top on FB marketplace for $50.00, granite cutting Diamond blade for an angle grinder from harbor freight,, and this polisher kit from amazon. All For under $100 . It took some time but we had all that was needed., It looks great installed, and fits perfectly with no fat caulk lines like the lazy installers leave...A few pointers...I actually mounted the grinder blade in my circular saw when doing the straight cuts. and used an improvised track-saw set up it was much more controllable and stable than doing by hand and left the edges cleaner for polishing. Take your time and follow the instructions, Skipping steps or speeding the process takes longer. be patient and keep working it.

The included head that the abrasive discs attach to clearly states it has a max RPM of 12,500. I was using it on an 11,000 RPM grinder, and the head ripped apart. Upon reading the box it states there is a max RPM of 5,000, however, it should not clearly say there is a max RPM of 12,500 on the head if this is the case. Do not buy. Misleading safety information lead to a potentially dangerous failure.

These work great but if you’re surfacing concrete you will need a separate package of coarse grit diamond pads. I wet polished all my concrete countertops and the first 49 grit pad only lasted for 4-6 square feet. The rest of the pads held up just fine ready for the next job.

Glass smooth polish on some custom colored cement countertops. Started with the 800 grit to round off the peaks of a few trowel lines before moving back down to the 400 grit. Went over the whole thing at 400 then 800 grit and finished it off with the 1500. Not sure I could've had any better results with the 3000 or 10000 grit but handy to have if I ever needed them!
