So far so good! A little petroleum jelly on some cotton balls or good tinder and you have fire.

I’m very glad I bought this set. Good size. I was worried they might be tiny, thin and cheap quality but it’s the exact opposite. They are a good decent size, produces amazing spark.

These are great 4” ferro rods! Throws a good amount of sparks. Perfectly sufficient for starting fires. The cord, whistle, and scraper are just nice little bonuses

As others have said, the black paint on the tools makes getting initial sparks difficult. However, I found it easier to just use my pocket knife instead of the provided steel with this product. With the knife I get a much larger, hotter shower of sparks. The job can be done with the provided steel, so it's worth keeping around as a last resort should I lose my knife.

These ferro Rods work very well. I use to start my wood fire every morning. I live in a barn loft and only heat is wood burning. Had used box matches. Some I had stored absorbed moisture out of the air and would not light any more. Was looking for a long term many use tool for fire starting. Takes me about 3 strikes to get a fire started each time. So at 10,000 estimated life span. So this should last me 10 years or so with no lost of function due to ambient humidity. I do use either waxed cardboard shredded or waxed hemp rope as an aid for the fire starting. But I was already buying those with the matches so no extra cost and almost a forever match with this tool. Do scrape off the paint and run the steel slow and hard against the rod for best results.

Works well. You need to rough them up first. But once you do they work great. Has a few useful things, but I only use it for the fire starting, not the other features.Nice that it comes with some paracord if you need it. Useful thing to have in the camp kit, car, camper.

This ferro rod set is excellent for the money. I mean a four peice ferro rod set for sub $20 is almost unheard of these days. Combined that with the fact that these aren't just miniscule unusable ferro rods that you normally see at this price point and you've got a winner. Great for preparedness and bushcrafting on a budget and you'll never sacrifice quality when making this purchase. I do prefer a ferro rod in the 5 - 6 inch long range with a 1/2 inch diameter, but with that being said these are great for a back up set or your main rod. Don't forget this kit has four rods, which means you can set up multiple kits with some uniformity. The rods come in at around 4 inches in length and roughly 3/8 diameter, so you know these ferro rods ain't no slouch. The strikers are typical design which gets the job done but could be a bit better. By the way, don't forget each rod comes equipped with paracord and a loud survival whistle. No fire is too big or too small for this champion. Start fires like a boss and take a chance on this kit!
