With the 3M indoor window insulator kit, you can lower your heating bills during the winter and make your home more energy-efficient. Part of 3M's line of energy-saving products, this kit includes window insulation film and a roll of double-sided mounting tape to create an airtight seal. Stretching the film removes wrinkles for a transparent view. This version of the 3M indoor window insulator kit enables you to insulate two 3-foot-by-5-foot windows.

Keep the Heat In and the Cold Out
Made by 3M, this indoor window insulator kit contains window insulation film along with Scotch Window Film Tape to keep cold drafts out and warm air in. As a result, you can reduce your heating costs during the winter. The film shrinks tight around your window for a transparent, wrinkle-free fit and is made to reduce condensation and prevent frost build-up.

Double-Sided Mounting Tape for a Secure Seal
Included with this kit is a 1/2-inch-by-12-yard roll of 3M window film mounting tape to keep your insulation in place all season long. This double-sided tape seals off cracks and crevices, creates an airtight seal, and establishes a strong bond between the surface, the tape, and the insulation film, as recommended in ENERGY STAR's "Seal and Insulate" guidelines. Featuring a convenient, ready-to-peel liner, the tape adheres easily to a variety of surfaces and stays intact upon removal.

Simple, Fast Installation
Installing the window insulation is easy. You simply unfold the film and cut it to the width of the window, allowing an extra inch on all sides. Next, you firmly apply the mounting tape around the window frame and remove the paper liner. Then you apply the film to the tape, starting at the top of the window, and reposition and stretch the film to remove wrinkles. Finally, you use a blow dryer to remove any remaining wrinkles, then trim any excess film.

Made in the United States, and designed for indoor use only, this insulator kit can be used with aluminum, vinyl-clad, or painted or varnished wood molding, but it should not be applied to veneer paneling or Lauan mahogany molding. The film and tape should be removed from the window at the end of the season. The film measures 4 square yards, or 5.16 feet by 7 feet by 0.75 thousandths of an inch (H x W x D), and weighs 0.13 pounds.

The window treatment is great. It goes on pretty good. The paper is hard to peel off the tape but it sticks on well. The window treatment seals out the cold drafts. It is worth the money spent. You just have to take your time putting it up.

I bought 2 packages of this last year and it worked great! I bought 2 more packages this year. Now the tape is just a freaking mess. It’s difficult to get the adhesive off and half the time the other end peels up as well. Once I finally got the tape down and the plastic up, there are wrinkles in the plastic even after using the hair dryer. The plastic last year was crystal clear. I have a few pieces of plastic left that I wanted to put around the doggy door but now I’m out of tape.

I placed the double sided tape on my wood trim, cut the plastic in half and placed it on my window. It's good insulation. I noticed that my room stayed warmer with this product on my window. I did not blow dry after placement, but it is still well sealed. I expected 2 piece of plastic, but instead it came as one long sheet. I had to cut in half for 2 windows. It was well worth the cost and effort to stop the cold draft of Chicago winters.

I wanted it to be the weather window covering I've purchased before. Plastic too thin with little heat retention.

Good product that is relatively easy to apply and smooths out nicely when warmed afterward with a hair dryer. My only concern had been that it seemed a bit thin (the Duck branded version is notably thicker and stronger). However, after using for two winters, the thickness hasn't been a problem and all of the windows that I covered remained tightly sealed until the films were taken down about 5-6 months later.

What a waste! I ordered 2 exact same kits Can't go wrong with 3M kits right? WRONG! Spent over an hour messing with this taped roll. Then went to the 2nd roll in the 2nd package only to find the same thing. OLD TAPE! I ended up going to the hardware store and spending another $10 on 1 more roll of tape that actually worked and just barely got through both windows that needed to be done. Idk who was the seller on this, but will find out and NEVER buy from them again. What a scam packing old unusable tape with new boxes or kits to save money! So, not only did this cost me the 2 lots AND another $10 for the roll of adhesive that DID work it cost me 2 hours of messing around with the other rolls! As well as 1 paid hour of my handymans time! The one side was fine and stuck to the window frame. So, went around both windows with it to then find the side that you stick the plastic to is WORTHLESS! Pull, tug, get a knife, use your nails whatever...it's NOT going to work. I truly believe they packed old tape in with these boxes to get rid of them! Just be careful! I want my money back or the cost of the extra tape & the hour I paid for zero progress with a handyman!

It reasonably improved old windows and reduced the heating bills. Of course nothing to compare with new windows but on rented property it works just fine.It is easy to install, but you need to get a bit of practice. Once I have done 2 windows I was an expert. When it gets loose after a few weeks or months you can just heated up a but with hair dryer and it gets into the shape. Very good product.

It pays to do your homework. I tried to skimp on power consumption and expense by using an underpowered hair dryer which was only 500 watts. Not enough to get out the wrinkles. I've got a more robust 1500 watt hair dryer on the way. Also, I've learned that if you place the film more than half an inch to three quarters of an inch away from the glass, you'll only get some thermal insulating control, but you'll still get condensation problems even after sealing the gaps between sashes (very old homes), and recaulking. So, don't place the film on the outer frame. If possible, put it not more that half to 3/4 of an inch from the glass for best performance.BE PATIENT WHEN APPLYING THIS STUFF.UPDATE: We finally got our first cool night. Went down to the mid 50sF. The house I'm in was built in the 1950s. It is located in the deep south, where summers are hot and humid, and the winters are cold and humid, but not all the time. The windows are old wooden frame windows with half a dozen single panes per sash. There was absolutely no caulk or gap fillers. The windows are prone to severe condensation to the point there's bad rotting on the frames, and repairs/replacements are likely. This house has no insulation anywhere except the attick. The house can't hold heat or cool for long. However, I've finally got the windows caulked and major gaps filled just prior to testing. I've added more of this product to several more windows, mainly my bed room, laundry room (forgot to caulk), and kitchen. Those windows that have the film attached showed no condensation during the night or early this morning. The overal house temperature seemed to be more stable. Last year, when it went to the 40s and 50s at night, the house went down to the 50s not long after midnight. For this test, the next morning, the house was still in the low 60s in the untreated rooms. rooms with the film on the windows were still in the upper 60s. NOTE: My bedroom was the worst of the lot, and lost temperature fastest in winter.I should point out that the heat was not turned on at all the night of the test. Should be interesting to see how the rest of the house performs once all windows are fully treated.First test performed on 19-09-2012. I'll update once the whole house has all windows trreated.Update: Just got a 1500 watt Conair hair dryer today, and was able to remove nearly all wrinkles. I honestly did not think all the wrinkles would go away like they did as poorly as I mounted the plastic, but the higher wattage dryer certainly works. The 500 watt dryer did not.
