I have only used coated wire a few times, as an amateur electronics hobbyists the wire was great to use. The wire cut nicely, and it was easy to get the ends cleared for a great solder join/joint. One advantage that I have really come to appreciate with coated wire is the ability to shape the wire to follow a path around the inside of a project. The wire also make it a little easier to transfer a project from a bread board to a circuit board, as the wire is already shaped to fit the required distance. Great wire!

I like that the red coating is easy to see so that it's easy to tell when you've successfully scraped/sanded it out of the way.I also like that this seems to be real copper and not the copper coating over aluminum. It stands the match test.I don't use this for winding transofrmers or magnets; I use this mostly for repairs on small surface mount circuits where even the smallest solid wire is prohibitively invasive. Small wires allow you to bridge that lifted trace or missed via without the insulation getting in the way. A few dots of hot glue to hold it in place and your circuit board is good to go.

Purchased this for a few electronics projects. The wire seems to have a nice finish, winds easily, and works as expected.

As an electronics hobbyist, i frequently use copper wire to make homemade inductors, transformers and transformer modification, etc. This is good wire. It's NOT that cheap CCA garbage that so frequently is passed off as copper these days...at least until you try soldering it.This is great stuff, too, for making crystal radio sets where you need quite a bit of wire for winding the antenna/tuner, etc.I am not sure if it is a bargain buy or not as that is always changing, so there may be cheaper out there but that's your choice. I can say this is good quality copper, though. As another reviewer noted, i too really like this red enamel coating because it is really obvious when you have completely stripped it off the ends for when you need to solder it. You may even be able to burn through it for soldering, if you wish, but i haven't tried that because i prefer the easy clean approach. All in all, a good buy if you are in need of some decent copper. I generally buy mine by the pound, or re-use it off old windings but this is good if you only need a little.
