Worst product I've purchased on amazon this year.I screwed it onto my tripod, careful to be gentle with it. Well - the screw that attaches it to the tripod stripped within the first use. I've seen $0.03 screws that had more durability. Worse yet, it has no means of tightening the arm in place, it just swings around at the whims of gravity with no means of holding it firm.Past my return window because I was trying to see if I could make it work for my uses. Maybe clamping it in place, maybe never remove it from that tripod? Idiocy, I should have given up early.

I really like this extension arm and it feels very well built and sturdy without being too heavy to take with me when needed. I trust my several thousand dollar camera bodies on it, so to me, that warrants a 5 star rating.

The KapSnug Tripod Extension Arm is a questionable accessory which I have considered at length. There are various tripods that incorporate the very features this item proposes to accomplish, however not at the same price point! I asked myself if I really needed the added features and until very recently the answer was always no.I already have a number of tripods from ultra-portable travel varieties, to ultra-sturdy astronomical duty types, and others in between those extremes. Adding the KapSnug Extension is an additional moving part and using it successfully requires the user to maintain an awareness of the balancing act they are about to begin. The KS Extension ships with a Smartphone adaptor and a ballhead adaptor. The Smartphone clamp can be oriented for portrait or landscape, It is of clamp style and is simple and easy to mount. Smartphones are quite lightweight in comparison to photo gear and don't present as great a tip over danger UNLESS the tripod is lighter than the extension and Smartphone COMBINED! Enough said about Smartphones! The pics I have attached illustrate a DSLR and micro lens being set up for time lapse pics of an orchid bud about to open. The extension arm allows a more intimate positioning of camera/lens combo than just a tripod alone. The pics also illustrate the degree of extension and mounting to the tripod, a light duty example. Please note that the orchid has been repositioned since initial pics were taken. The other accompanying tripod pics are of a rather burly tripod I use for field work and video. It's still early March, as I write this review, and have not yet had time to try the extension out of doors. The indoor setup give some idea of what can be done using the extension. Camera and micro lens mounted on a bellows, mounted on a burly tripod, are easily doable! Construction details illustrate the toothed engagement surfaces of the adjustable mounting platform which has a spring to separate the two surfaces. This is an important feature because you will only need to loosen it until the teeth move easily past one another till you reach the desired degree of angle, then tighten the thumbscrew to lock position. Tricky to do when loaded with photo gear! Now for the quirky parts: the 1/4-20 screw stub, that the Smartphone/ballhead attaches to, needs a thin piece of rubber or other non-slip material to maintain a secure fit. The ballhead assembly, shown in disassembled and assembled views, is adjusted by a single thumbscrew. So, loosen the thumbscrew and two adjustments go wonky! Make certain you are holding your gear before loosening the ballhead!! Using this piece of kit is an exercise in patience and balance. The so called "sandbag" included with the kit is laughable as I don't personally know of anyone who carries sand with them to use as a counterweight! Sand and photo gear don't play well together! A handful of small/medium stones, found on site, might work better.....just saying. Improvisation is the mother of invention!! Familiarize yourself with all the adjustments before you load anything large and expensive, and be sure your tripod/mounting is robust enough to support your gear hanging out over the edge!! Hope this helps.

I really got this with the intention to never use the included tripod mount... I'm using this as an extension for an overhead shot where I have super or magic clamps/arms holding the arm and clamped to my overhead trusses... and it works, excellent. Now, kinda following some thought process... I'm not using the tripod mount for a tripod, rather a light stand; and with the ability to use 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 I can use this on any of my light stands easily (remember to add counterweight) making these stands lightweight c-stand style (sort of). The arm feels as though it is built well. The friction ring isn't too stiff allowing for quick adjustments. The ball head will hold a decent amount of weight allowing for top down shots without slipping out of adjustment (using mirrorless crop sensor cameras and action cameras, I'm sure phones will work as well). This could be easily used as a mic arm although I haven't tried it; I have no doubts that you would be successful doing this. As another reviewer mentioned in his video, the base cap has a ~3/8 threaded hole and is not compatible with other 3/8-16 equipment, so there is no adapting to make the arm larger, that hole is intended for the supplied hook only. Honestly, my only gripe whatsoever, I don't like the slick painted finish. I wish there was a flat/textured finish for better grip... not worthy of a decline in rating, just personal preference. If you need a decent overhead arm that's not going to break the bank... this may be exactly what you're looking for. It is a great addition to my kit.

I am very satisfied with the experience! The aluminum alloy is very light, but very strong, so I don't have to worry about the stability of the shooting equipment. The installation is very simple, it can be fixed in a few minutes, and it is also very smooth to operate. The extension arm is of moderate length and can be easily adjusted to meet the needs of shooting at different angles.

Very nice! I use it to hold flashes or fill lights. It can be used for anything though, super versatile and sturdy. Very well built.
