Rugged, well made cable saws. Not just for emergencies. Does a great job of cutting large PVC pipe. Very pleased!

This is one of those things where you need to understand that there is a right tool and a wrong tool for each job. You will not want to cut down a full size tree with this little saw. But if you are in a pinch while doing some DIY work or camping, and you need to cut through plastic or a small branch, I have no doubt that this saw will get it done. Id recommend light strokes and letting the teeth slowly do the work, vs. putting a lot of strain on the handles. One is going in my travel toolbag, one will be in my glove box, and the other will be with my camping gear.

...I extended the length with paracord, tied one end to a ball that I then threw over the limb. Not a very climbable old oak. This worked for a while until the saw became jammed deep in the limb. The limb is probably about 4-6" diameter. The handle came loose from pulling too hard. I would say they work well for smaller branches near the ground. The way I used it was likely the primary problem, not the saw itself. Keeping the handles far apart will reduce the angle it cuts into the branch which I suspect is why it jammed the way I used it. If I had another person to help me - standing far away from me, it may have worked

This is the second time I've tried using this kind of wire PVC pipe saw. The first type I bought (a different brand) did almost nothing, due to the wire being very smooth. These are better, with a much more abrasive wire. Tip: start a groove in the pipe somewhere first before using the wire, so the wire doesn't slip around and it stays where you want it to cut. That said, I find with these that the wire starts to catch in the kerf once I'm about halfway through, making it near impossible to complete the cut. I have to use another tool to finish the second half of the cut.Still, there are limited options when you have to cut a pipe in a tight, confined space. This tool is useful for cutting the back (inaccessible) side of the pipe, at least.
