The free drill bit almost worked on all eight holes. It it got a little dull.

When they say heavy duty, they mean it. This came in a relatively small box, but was very heavy considering the size. I’m using these to hang a punching bag and other items on the rafters of the basement.

The he size is perfect for a clothes line, and being made of stainless steel, how could you go wrong. These are a awesome value for the price, check them out on one of the big home improvements stores you'll see what I mean. They function exactly as they should by holding the clothes line up with out sag, even when loaded. The installation is easy enough particularly if you drill a pilot hole with the provided drill bit and start the screws and finish with a screwdriver thru the loop. Overall I absolutely recommend this for purchase you'll not beat this price and it's a quality product.

"Self tapping"? Odd that self tapping screws would come with a tapping drill bit. These are not self tapping... That said, the only complaint I have with these is the description. Otherwise they are perfectly good eye screws for basic use (non overhead, non lifting, non safety).

BACKGROUNDThis came up as a Vine suggestion and since I needed something like this to mount some string lights that I was also reviewing, I agreed to review it.INITIAL OBSERVATIONSIt appears to be manufactured acceptably. I did not notice any obvious defects during the initial examination of the product. It comes with a drill bit that is the appropriate size for pre-drilling in wood for this size wood screw thread.COMPLAINTS / ISSUESNone at this time and considering the thickness of the steel which this is made out of vs the small amount of weight that I will be putting on the screw eyes, I doubt that there will be any issue. Regardless, I will revisit this review if I discover are any issues in the future.IMPRESSIONSI initially pre-drilled with a smaller drill bit then the seller provided with this product, but it was too small to get the screw eye started. So, I used their drill for a couple of inches so that I could have a larger hole to get it started into. This worked and after I had screwed it to the point where my smaller diameter pre-drill hole was located, it got noticeably more difficult to screw it into the wood. I was screwing it through a 2x4 fascia board and into the end of a 2x? roof joist, so it had contact with the wood for the entire length of the screw threads. It was *very* sturdy installed this way and I doubt that it will be destroyed in any storm that did not also end up destroying my house.I've found that a lot of times when I screw an eye bolt or lag screw into wood like this, it will twist off, but this one did not.CONCLUSIONThe product is definitely acceptable and it appears to meet all the specs in the ad. I was surprised that I did not twist off the head of it when screwing it all the way down since that happens quite often with the lag screws and eye screws that I have bought from the "big-box" (i.e. HomeDepot and Lowes) stores. The surface is smooth and there are no pits or flaws. Very nice polish. The threads are cleanly machined. Tip is very sharp. The bolts are straight and the eye is well formed.The included bit is the right size for a pilot hole for the bolts. Machining is good, coating is intact with no flaking or chips.These are heavy-duty eyebolts. The threaded area is nice and long and would grip wood very well. You could easily put a lot of weight or tension on it and it would hold. They claim 800 pounds breaking strength and you'd believe it.If you needed to run steel cable or hold up a very large sunshade this would easily be up to the task. Including the drill bit is a nice touch so you have everything you need to get the job done.
