I connected this resistor inline with the existing doorbell wires. At first i thought the doorbell would immediately start to charge but i found that the doorbell will charge once the battery is drained to a lower percentage. I havent seen what the percentage is though. I had to charge the battery every month before, now i haven'ttouched it in awhile.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Allows you to wire a Ring doorbell to power without an actual doorbell chime in the circuit. It does have solid metal ends, best managed by soldering wire to them.

We bought a ring camera for the front door that was supposed to be easy to install as a hard wired unit not needing to be charged. They then tell you in the directions that come with the install paper that oh by the way you need this part to make it work. But there is absolutely no way this bulky thing the size of a Lego brick will fit behind the ring against the outside wall. We are forced to use the battery which sucks. It doesn’t last 6 months on or charge. We’ve had it for about a month and have had to charge it from dead twice and we’ve used the factory settings to see f that helps. So if you can fit a LEGO brick in between the ring and the wall which could only fit a piece of paper then by all means purchase otherwise it’s a complete waste of money and time waiting for it to arrive so one may set up their new camera.

Most Ring doorbells can be powered from an 18VAC transformer, the same used with a mechanical doorbell chime. In my installation, I wanted to the doorbell without the chime, but still powered to keep the battery charged. Ring requires this resistor when set up this way with the Ring Doorbell-2. Installing the resistor requires putting it in line with one of the terminals (not shorting between the two terminals.) I soldered the wires to the connector on the resistor, and that's it. Now the doorbell shows "hardwired" and the transformer keeps the battery charged. The resistor is too large to fit behind the doorbell in the wedge, so I installed it next to the transformer. There are no instructions provided with the resistor because it is a generic electronic component. The Ring website provides a basic diagram, and lists which models require the resistor, and which models do not.

If you install a Ring Doorbell and a transformer, but do not have an actual bell in the system, you need one of these to provide the correct resistance and make everything work.Buying two was (somehow) cheaper than buying one elsewhere, so I now have a spare. I needed this for a friends Ring installation; easy to install (I used Wago's to connect to the circuit), and works perfectly.
