I got these to put around our cars, which stay parked outside, to see if they would work to repel rats and other critters that like to avail themselves of the warmth of our engines during the winter months. Though the ingredients don't list naphthalene (what mothballs are made of), they smell like it, which I suppose is the key to their repulsion. I can't help thinking they do indeed contain this chemical. At least they're a bright chartreuse color, so I can easily see when they've eroded and need to be replaced. Regular mothballs can be difficult to see among gravel, which is what we use to cover our driveway. But, they're also cheaper than these things, so I guess it's really a tossup.

I live near a wooded area with a nearby retention pond. The snakes, especially copperheads, seems to love my yard more than they should. I place these strategically around my yard along the fence line. The dogs leave them alone and it seems like it does the trick to minimize our annual encounters.

I have a second home, back in the woods of Virginia. It is surrounded by trees, and lots of nature. And, I mean lots! There are all sorts of critters, varmints, and monsters, trekking across the property. The cute and cuddly ones, I don't mind. It's those more dangerous ones that I need to watch out for, such as the occasional bear, rabid foxes, and some snakes. Believe me, I understand that I am encroaching on their territory. I try my best not to harm anything that does not harm me. Therefore, I do what I can, to keep them away. That is where this snake repellent comes into play. According to the description, it is safe for people, and pets, with no chemicals, or poisons. It is stated that it is made from natural essential oils, including sulfur, garlic extract, xanthan gum, sodium sulfate, dextrin, horse chestnut, geraniol, and impatiens, which provide powerful and non-toxic smells that the snakes do not like. The package contains 10 repellents. The instructions stated to place them every 3-6 feet, and replace every couple of months. Since this is one of those products that take a while, before you know if they are working, or not, I will give it a rating, based on what it is supposed to do. However, if I see the snakes eating the repellents, and laughing at me, I will come back, and update my review, accordingly.

I am horribly snake-phobic and in our woody surroundings, there are definitely garter and black snakes. I like gardening, but am often kept inside due to my fear. For the past three years I have used these Snake Be Gone Balls and for three years I have seen no snakes! I have no idea if these Balls really work, but since I haven't seen a snake in three years, I ordered more for this spring and summer. I spread them in areas of ground cover where snakes like to hide. The balls have a very strong mothball-like smell, which is fine with me if it keeps the snakes away!

Smell is noticeable, I am fingers are crossed that it repels snakes. I'm actually hoping the smell of it will just keep away many other things that are terrorizing my yard.

We are a camping family and we tend to go primitive camping rather than the more common camping in a camp ground with bathrooms, water, pre determined camping pads, etc. We go out in the forest where there are bears, snakes, etc. So wanted something that I could lay around our camping area that would POSSIBLY deter snakes, etc. I have read mixed articles on snake deterent. Not sure if this will work, can't attest to that as it is winter so no real issues with snakes. But I will say, the smell is potent and snakes do have a good sense of smell. So it may work. Comes in a nice individual package that makes it easy to lay out...overall can't complain....
