LED Bars have a lot of uses but one of them is if you want to display a bunch of LEDs in a compact form factor which is less of a hassle. This one has 8 (but they come in a variety of sizes) which is great for displaying a byte's worth of output on LEDs such as SIPO shift register examples.They should be used with a resistor in line as they can be prone to damage/destruction otherwise but they seem slightly more resilient and when I accidently used one LED without a resistor it merely dimmed it to half instead of flat out destroying it.
