Good idea, bad design. The blade is at a 90 degree angle to the wood causing lots of tear out. The blade should cut the wood rather than scrape it.

I chose this 20mm bench dog hole chamfer bit for use on an upcoming resurfacing of my work bench. I've not used bench dogs before but with this resurfacing, I'm looking into learning how to make good use of this technique for my woodworking projects.Upon initial inspection of this tool, I found the machining to be very precise and refined. The bit and the blade appear to be meticulously machined with no imperfections from what I can see. The weight of the small bit is impressive and leads me to believe that it is the result of good workmanship on the part of the manufacturer. As far as function goes, I found a similar result to some of the other reviewers of this product. When testing this bit on some scrap material before I put it to use on my actual bench, I found that tearout is indeed an issue. I was able to overcome this by spinning the bit quite fast in my drill and lowering it very slowly into the hole. When I plunged it in quickly or started spinning it while inserted into the dog hole, I did experience a fair amount of tearout. I haven't used a chamfer tool like this before so I can't speak to the right technique but from experience, spinning it quickly but moving it down slowly does the trick. That said, this will make for a slower job but since it's possible to use this properly after testing on scrap, I'm pleased with it. As the blade has no support behind it for tearout, go slow and you should be OK.

It’s very poor design and not working properly for almost every single hole. I got huge tear out on them and it made my whole working piece trash. I prepared this piece over weeks and waited 3-4 weeks for this item to arrive and eventually ruined my whole effort. Totally not worth it!Also not to mention it doesn’t come with the shaft blade to clear glue residue inside the hole at all!

great chamfer tool - this works really well for setting nice edges on the workbench tops

This chamfer tool is great. It uses a square indexable insert (carbide I believe) which should last forever, particularly since you can turn it three times before you run out of sharp edges. The tool itself is well machined and has a nice surface finish. I checked with a file and it has been heat treated to medium-hard.Looking forward to building the new top for my old woodworking bench and having nice chamfered holes.Note that this is for 20mm dog holes. If you are using 3/4" dogs and accessories, this may not work.

This works ok...barely. I am a full-time woodworker and always looking for a version of tools that don't break the bank and still work really well. There are alot out there. My workbench is made out of planed and joined 2x4's because it is cheap to replace the top/ parts (they/ it gets used and beat up) and pine is soft enough to not cause damage to a dropped piece, as it would if made out of hardwood. It needs to work well for me and could care less about how pretty it is. The reason this tool doesn't work great, IMO, is because the grain is unsupported infront of the carbide insert, causing alot of tearout. If the insert was placed on the other side of the recess, the grain would be supported far better by the edge of the cylinder. A reamer on the side of the cylinder would be nice to clean glue, finish, etc out of the holes periodically. I won't buy this one again, and will be returning it. I would buy if design changes are made, esp in supporting the grain. I do not recommend this tool, as it is now.
