I will say I have not installed it yet, but I have tested its function. I put it in the freezer for 15 minutes, then hung it above my wood stove. It was really cool to watch the arm open up. I have no doubt this will work for opening a vent on the roof. This will be great for those spring and fall days where the greenhouse is closed up at night, but you forget to open the windows mid morning to let the heat out. I plan on putting in two of these to get more ventilation.Would recommend to anyone

These are a great solution to a rapidly changing temp inside your greenhouse.-It came in well packaged and in perfect shape.-It seems very sturdy and well made with solid clean joints.-The instructions are easy to understand and installation went fine.- So far it has opened and closed without issue. If you find your greenhouse turning into an oven when you can’t always get to opening the windows this is a great solution.

I have a Harbor Freight (HF) 10 X 12 green house that I will be setting up this spring. Harbor Freight stopped selling window opener kits for their green houses several years ago. I was quite pleased to find this window opener kit. I have gone all through this kit to understand how I will be installing it. The edges of the two arms or frames have a semi-rough touch to them, not enough to cause a cut, but still enough to warrant using some sandpaper on first before I install them. The process of getting the rod of the cylinder to thread into place requires precise alignment between the rod and the frame. (Please refer to the two pictures.) The maximum window opening is 18.5 inches and the rod is fully extended at 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Apparently, the window is fully closed around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I will observe the opening and closing action of this window opener on a warm table, before I install it into the ceiling vent windows. I want to make any needed adjustments for the length of the travel before I install this into a roof vent window.I consider this kit to be a five-star product. The manufacturer provided sufficient hardware for installing these window openers into either metal framed windows or wood framed windows. All of the pieces line up and the opening action is smooth. The entire assembly weighs 12.5 ounces, so it will be easy to hold up overhead and install.

These automatic window lifts are built with very strong springs and are otherwise constructed mostly from aluminum to resist corrosion. The pistons are removeable and screw into the assemblies to automatically open vent windows when the temperature rises above a set point. So far, they seem to function as promised in my small home made greenhouse. My greenhouse is only 8' x 8' (small enough to not require a building permit but large enough to shield my vegetables from occasional winter freezes in North Florida). The downside to such a small greenhouse is that an setup like this is prone to overheating, and I have high hopes that these automatic vent openers will help minimize overheating in the unpredictable winters we have here. The pistons open my lightweight vents on warm afternoons, but my vents are quite lightweight (2 x 4 frames with polycarbonate panels- they weigh about 10 pounds each) . I suspect these openers would work on much heavier windows. The instructions for using these are a bit vague, relying mostly on generic illustrations, but I guess only serious do it yourselfers would be installing these, so adequate, I guess.

Because it is now the dead of winter, I will have to wait until spring before installing this automatic greenhouse window opener. Upon inspection, I am confident that it will work as intended and look forward to trying this out in a few months. I like that the directions are both clear and written in proper English to make them easier to understand. For all I know, this may deserve five stars but I only gave it four for now and will try to update this rating once I install it and use it for a while.

I have wanted one of these automatic window openers for a long time. We live in the desert where summer daytime temperatures often exceed 100 degrees, and the inside of a closed greenhouse can reach 130 degrees! I usually leave the doors and windows of the greenhouse open during hot weather, but will close up if we are expecting heavy winds (which are frequent) or a storm. If I forget or am prevented from opening the windows the next morning, the heat can kill my plants. This automatic window opening device will be a lifesaver for my plants. It's too cold here now to try it out (last night temps were near freezing and it's 50 degrees as I type this), but I will get it installed soon and be glad my plants will be protected from the heat. Look for an update in early Spring.
