Genuinely very weak. Wanted to use for small design carving, the thing barely gets by cutting cardboard on a full power. Booooof

I attempted to use this rotary tool to cut a very thin piece of wood and it just couldn't do the job. It did work for sanding the edges, once I got it cut with another tool. It does come with a variety of attachments but given the lack of power this tool has, I am not sure how many of them will do the jobs they are meant for.

I got this to throw in a bag I take around full of hobby tools and things to make crafts at my makerspace and with friends, so this was the perfect size and all for me. The tool itself works well, it's not gonna cut through steel and definitely will have it's limitations, but it's perfect for foam, plastic, and wood projects. The kit comes with a good amount of bits and sanding drums which was really nice, and so far it's worked well. No complaints yet, if I discover something I'll update the review.

While I have never used the famous and well known rotary tool, I have tried this one! This is a corded tool and not a cordless tool, so that may impact some buyers. For me, that issue was not important, but functionality was. This rotary tool has quite a few attachments, which is obviously one reason that folks get a tool such as this. I have not checked yet, but I’m betting that these small rotary tools have a common sized shaft for attachments for interchangeability. Polishing, sanding, grinding, cutting, this rotary tool has many many uses for small areas or jobs.Additionally, there are five different speeds which run from a low RPM to a very high RPM. There is a locking button for adding or removing attachments. Plus, a great thing for me, the instructions are clear and easy to understand. Perhaps someone with the famous brand will chime in and compare it with this particular item. As for me, I have nothing to compare this to so I am only speaking of this particular tool.

Update: Unfortunately while I was using this to carve a wooden Christmas ornament yesterday it had a lot of issues. It started switching speeds on its own, randomly slowing, surging, and stopping. It also randomly lost all its torque. I was originally really happy with this rotary tool, but I now have to knock off a couple stars for reliability.I'm a hobby wood carver. My carving tool of choice is a knife, but as I get older my arthritis is getting worse and knife carving is becoming painful for me, so I decided to try power carving with a rotary tool instead. This mini rotary tool is just what I was looking for. It's small and lightweight enough to comfortably hold in one hand while I hold a carving in the other (with my carving safety gloves on, of course). It'll take a little getting used to before I call myself proficient with it, but I spent some time this evening getting familiar with how it cuts wood. The tool did great carving a block of hard maple so I figure it's got enough power for my work, and to be honest, you need to use it with a light touch for any kind of detailed carving anyway. (As a test I did bear down on the wood pretty hard to see what would happen, and it didn't stall or slow down at all so I'm happy with its power)I should note that this is not a cordless device despite its description calling it an 18V tool, which is a bit misleading. Even so, I'm happy with this order and I'm glad I found a tool that will let me keep carving even with my worsening arthritis.

This rotary tool is pretty handy and is great for small household projects. Don't expect to do any big projects with this. The bits are pretty tiny. The saw blade I received was places on the device backward and we had to remove it to flip it around in order to use. My husband cut himself on the blade doing that. It comes with a bunch of little bits, but not sure if we would actually use all of them.. but nice to have in case we do need it! Another thing that is a bit annoying is that it is corded. It would be a lot easier to handle if it was cordless but if you are purchasing this, you already know it has a cord! The cord isn't that long either, just FYI. We really don't have many other complaints. We were able to use this for small things around the house and small crafting projects, which was the intent!
