I've been a user of rotary tools for a very long time. This time around I just wanted something that works well that isn't expensive and this fit the bill. I typically need a tool like this to cut or grind metal like tubes, wires or rusty, stuck hardware. It works really well and having multiple speed options is convenient. I didn't find any issue putting on different bits or had any issues tightening them. I also didn't have any issues putting it all back in the storage container like some have found. I haven't used the extended shaft. They do get hot if used for a longer period of time . I try not to use it if I don't have to and if I do, I try to keep very little bend in the shaft to keep it from overheating, just a tip. Overall, I think this kit provides a lot of value. We'll see how long it lasts but so far it's already paid for itself.

Arrived in original storefront packaging, thankfully I was home and expecting the delivery. Overall it is a nice corded rotary tool with lots of accessories in a plastic case. Sound is not too loud.

I finally burned out my Dremel tool after close to 50 years of use. I couldn't justify spending a lot for a new Dremel, so based on the reviews of the Phalanx unit, I decided to purchase it. I immediately put the tool to some pretty hard use fabricating a couple of steel brackets for my motorcycle. The Phalanx came through with flying colors. I used it the cut-off wheel for cutting steel, grinding, and polishing. It is surprisingly powerful (and as a result a bit heavier than expecting although not a problem), has a wide variety of attachments, and is good quality. One of the things I found particularly useful for the work I was doing is the flexible cable attachment which allows you to use the tool like a dentist's drill without the need to hold the power unit - just place it on the bench, attach the flexible cable, and attach the grinder, engraver, cut-off wheel to the end of the cable and operate like a dentist's drill. It was tremendously useful. One suggestion, though - if you're going to use the flexible cable, I suggest lubricating the inner cable periodically with some WD40 or other oil. Dremel recommends doing this with their flex cable (which incidentally costs more than the entire Phalanx grinder kit). I am very pleased with my purchase and pleasantly surprised by the quality and performance.

I’ve used this tool several times and I’m glad I bought it. Some of the accessories don’t last too long but those are easy to replace. I used most of the small wire wheels to clean my stainless boat prop and they did great getting into small areas that larger tools wouldn’t fit. The small cutting wheels don’t last long but do a great job as well. Have not tried a bunch of the other accessories but overall a very nice package in a convenient case. Will use this tool a lot just hope it lasts.

This thing is so much nicer than the craftsman brand I purchased in the 90s. Back then I couldn't afford the nice rotary tool and I got the most basic option available from craftsman. It only had variable speed if I plugged it in with a remote in-line dimmer control intended for lamps. This is so much more well-built it's not even funny. The rotary speed controller is indexed with clicks so you don't accidentally change speeds. The included case, back up brushes for the motor, and all the accessories including a flexible shaft drive, would cost the same price as what I spent on the original basic craftsman rotary tool. That tool has lasted 30 years so far and if this tool has anywhere near that lifespan it will be so much more of the value. It works great so far and it is much more versatile than any rotary tool I've ever had the privilege to operate. The forward grip is possibly one of the most significant advances made for rotary tools. Of course the flex shaft is great, but the forward grip improves control exponentially! Out of all the choices for rotary tools I have ever seen, I think this is the best deal if not a couple of other offers by the same manufacturer. Only time will tell if this gets the perfect score of five stars all around.

This rotary tool is great for small DIY projects! Very powerful with different motor speeds. The extension really gives me the capability to get into small and weird angles without holding the base. It’s a cheap alternative to name brand dremel without sacrificing quality

Overall this item is amazing!! The only thing that lost it a star is that the small dremel piece gets hot and will melt the plastic on the cord. Tons of power and works so great! Highly recommend this product!

Was expecting cheap crap but I was genuinely surprised how capable this was for stripping paint and cutting metal rods.I’d recommend buying more accessories, especially wire wheels cause the ones included were gone in 30 seconds. Glad they cheaped out on bits instead of the tool cause I jammed it a few times, ran it for an hour straight, used it all day, and it still keeps going. This would be good for engraving tail lights with the wand and ball end, I got a feeling this was a worthwhile investment. We’ll see if it survives another weekend project

I just got this recently, but have used it a few times. I work with stones mostly. It is the right price. (I just had to return a different dremel to Harbor Freight, after only 3 very short uses, the motor blew.) I like that this 1 has the large vents, so it does not overheat in the 1st few minutes, like others I've used. I love that it comes with a flex shaft. It also works great. High speed really gets it vibrating, but still workable. Speeds are a great help. If you want to use dremel without flex shaft, it is a bit big to hold in hand for certain things, but that's what the flex shaft is for, right. It comes with many good attachments, bits, extra collet sizes, etc. So far, I think this is a great product. SIDE NOTE: Even though you may already know how to use a dremel, read the short instruction booklet. It will tell you to let it run on highest speed, unloaded for 5 minutes before use, to set the brushes in the motor. What it does not tell you is that if you pull the middle line out of the flex shaft (pulls out and slides back in very easily) & put white grease on the whole length of it before use, it will last much longer. Only need to do it once.
