About this item

  • CONSCIOUSLY DESIGNED: VidaWool seed starter plugs are engineered with Hydro-Xtend technology for even distribution of water and nutrients. With an 85-95% water retention capacity, the plugs sink in less than 3 seconds, promoting efficient water use during plant growth. (VidaWool Vine Performance Assessment, May 2024)
  • EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE: With a handling integrity of 2.4 lbf, these mineral wool plugs resist punctures when wet and dry for minimal loss or breakage, providing stability vital for delicate growth phases. They are easy to use and do not need to be stored in a climate-controlled environment. Keep dry until use.
  • HOW TO USE: Submerge plugs in a nutrient solution adjusted to a pH of 5.5–6.0 for up to 15 minutes. Using the pre-drilled hole as a guide, place seeds or clones into the holes to a depth of 3/4"–1" for optimal root growth. When the plants are ready, simply pick and put the plugs into the blocks.
  • HELP CONTROL YOUR GROW: Designed to achieve consistent, repeatable plant performance backed by science and data.
  • VidaWool plugs are made from a minimum of 70% recycled content. (Verified by ICC-ES VAR 1025)
  • VidaWool is 100% made in North America to give you confidence in your mineral wool growing media's quality

VidaWool starter plugs are vital in the first step of your cultivation plan. Predrilled holes facilitate precise placement for seeds and clones, and outstanding handling integrity helps keep VidaWool starter plugs intact during the most delicate phase of plant development. Productive and stable, our mineral wool plant plugs make transplantation into blocks efficient and seamless. Hydro-Xtend water dispersion technology prevents dry zones in the block, so you can feel confident plants are getting the moisture they need to keep growing. Our hydroponic pods are easy to use and do not require a climate-controlled environment.

Really nice and large rockwool cubes for propagation. I've had about 80-90% success rate using these and they are easy to transfer once established. Holds a lot of water with the larger size so they are easy to get a good dryback and I don't have to leave them sitting in a puddle of water. Very good price point, reliable and clean. Highly recommend.

This is a nice kit to start seeds or propagate cuttings. I started my garden this spring with a bit more serious intent, and I have tried rockwool and coco coir, the rockwool works as well and maybe better and it is a lot cleaner. I start my seeds, and then transplant the seedlings to either my indoor hydroponic garden or straight outside. I grew amazing peppers, especially for Michigan zone 6.50 rockwool plugs in 5x10 rows are plenty to get your garden started and this kit is cheaper than the rapid rooter kit with the same amount of plugs. The tray can be reused with generic rockwool plugs when you are through with these. Unfortunately, you do need a separate tray to put underneath and I am taking one star off for that because you basically cannot use it inside without a tray underneath due to the drainage holes.

I was excited to get this so I could grow more plants, I mean it has space to propagate 50 plants in one compact tray – so I ordered it. Then I looked at the calendar. Silly me. It is currently September – and not the time of the year to grow food or flora where we live. I am looking forward to Spring when I can work on my garden. My dad would occasionally buy a lug of fresh tomatoes during the summer and put the box in a corner in the kitchen. My brothers and I would core the top of the tomatoes and put some salt in them, and eat them like they were apples. I love tomatoes! We do have some raised gardens on one side of our home and I would dearly LOVE to grow some veggies, especially tomatoes. When our family moved into this house we started a garden.None of us had planted a garden before and, since we were in a new location, we did not know what kind of wild life we had here. Well, basically we spent some time and money to feed some bunnies. I didn’t mind losing some of the veggies, (I hate carrots), but those rascally balls of fluff ate all my tomato plants. I love all the wild creatures, but I WILL find a way to protect my tomatoes this coming year!

Recently dove head first into the world of hydroponic gardening, and after watching MANY YouTube vides on the subject I ordered these. They arrived quickly and as described, and I have already used 8 of them to get my gardening experience off the ground! I would definitely order again when I need more.

I ordered these rockwool plugs to propagate some of my outdoor shrubs. However, I did not have good luck with these rockwool plugs at all. The cuttings turned totally black within a week. I was so bummed because I had heard good things about them. I should say that I am not an experienced gardener, and I am almost positive that I got the ph levels wrong. These can be re-used, so I am going to try them again.

The tray is a bit different than I am used to. Usually i get square rockwool plugs. This tray has round ones. The plug tray insert, and bottom tray are washable and reusable. Not that different than my other kind so I thought it would work the same. This tray unfortunately did not work for me. I cut a bunch of cuttings for cloning. I soaked these plugs in 5.8 ph balanced water. I shook out the excess water. I dip the cuttings in rooting hormone and put one in each cube. I then covered this tray with a dome that you must provide. After a week everything died. Usually, this method works well for me. This could have failed to user error. Maybe the clones were diseased but could not tell before setting them in this tray. I am sure this tray works like any other rockwool tray.

I got these at the end of the season, so haven’t had a chance to use them yet. They look like they’ll work great for starting individual seeds, and also look like they’ll be easy to transplant into larger pots. They come on a plastic tray, so can be watered in place. I’ve put these away for now, but I’m very much looking forward to seed-starting season in the spring!
