Have used it 4 times ice fishing in AK. Its works very well. For an online reel the line descends very quick. I highly recommend the Free Fall.

I feel like 80% of the bad reviews are from people that just don't know how to use the reel. Works perfectly fine and if I had the money I'd replace all my ice spinning reels with these inline reels by 13 fishing. Very happy with the smoothness and the drag. Adjusting the drop is extremely easy too. Take your time to learn to use it (which is very easy) and you'll be happy with the product 100%..

I bought this reel in the fall and anxiously waited for ice fishing season to start.!! I have a number of 13 fishing products and reel-y (haha) like them.! They’re a quality company that makes a great product.Fast forward a few months… I finally got a chance to use this reel on a med/heavy rod. This reel has a very smooth descent.! The adjustments that can be made, depending of the weight of your jig, make it real easy to get your jig in position to start catching fish. The gear ratio make retrieval of your big catch very easy.I’ve realized over the past few ice fishing seasons that in-line reels are the way to go. The trigger allows you to adjust the height of your jig in a fraction of the time as compared to the conventional spinning reel. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed with the quality of this reel.!!!!!

The freefall drop speed control does not work on this reel. The 5 magnet system it uses seems fine but the reel spool is made of aluminum therefore is not magnetic so the magnets acting on it to slow it down cannot work! I don't know how Fish 13 could let this reel go to market like this because drop speed control is one of the advertised features for it, poor design!If Fish 13 made a replacement spool that was magnetic then this reel would be awesome for deep lake ice fishing!

The “magnetic “ drop speed adjusting mechanism doesn’t work!You know why??? Because the rotor is aluminum (or plastic or some other non ferrous material). Who was the genius who designed this?????!!!!! EMBARRASSING

I love using inline reels ice fishing and when I saw that they finally where making one that was big enough for lake trout I bought it. I am sad to say I am a little disappointed. It’s just awkward line is constantly getting behind the trigger that is too big and the fit of the spool to the frame is poor and my line is constantly getting in there and I have to take the reel apart to fix it. I also wish that it had a option to leave the bail open for dead sticking.It dose have a nice smooth drag and some of my problems would be fixed if I went to a larger diameter line like a 12lb mono.
