It will do the job but not very good. The big thing is your dealing with water and freezing temperatures. Nothing will work when it freezes up

It ok. Drags a bit clunky and sticky. Free spool tensioner is usuless. Free spool button in a non convenient location. Theres better inline reels. Not worth it imo get a better reel

I've used this reel with 4lb mono in 10* temps - worked fine. No problem handling 16" trout with 22" pole. The drag works, the freespool works. Reel never snarled up on me when the line was iced.There are $5 cheaper inline reels available (ZAvenak), but Eagle Claw is a respected name and brand. I'm liking it so far.

I have two of these reels now. They pair perfectly with my HT ice blue super light rods. Amazing spool response. The braking system allows you to slowly drop jigs of all sizes and weights, which is so crucial for catching panfish through the ice. The reel is comfortable and the gear ratio makes reeling in fish easy and quick. The star drag is also a very nice feature. I will continue to buy these reels! Great value for the money.

I've only used this reel a few times for panfish through the ice. It operates smoothly. It has a good retrieve ratio for the fishing that I do. Size and weight is comfortable. It seems to have solid construction for its price. The line can easily unspool and one time it got tangled under the housing. I'm not sure yet if I'd buy another; I just need to use it a few more times to decide.

Great reel for the price . Line twist is practically non existent . Free spool feature is smooth , and allows the smallest of lures to get down fast . Free spool also has a drop rate drag to allow for a slower drop rate with heavier jigs and spoons . With a 2.6:1 gear ratio and a fairly smooth star drag system , I see no reason why this reel can't tackle the larger game fish ! I only gave this reel 4 stars due to the fact that the star drag is a little tricky to adjust on the fly . I simply set it for medium amount of drag for average size fish , then palm the spool on larger fish , which seems to work out well . A couple of my fishing buddies have already purchased this reel after seeing it in action . Pick one up , you'll be glad you did !

This is your typical Chinese junk forced on us every day. There is nothing smooth about this reel. You will need at least 4 or 6 pound test or the rough drag will break your line every time you get a big fish.

What an awesome ice fishing reel (just need some ice now)! I'll probably have to buy a couple more before this winter ends, but I am waiting for some ice to put this one to the test. Right now, it's spooled and ready to go, and as I said , it looks and feels awesome. The free spool feature is really great and has a tension adjustment knob and the drag adjusts like my bait casting reels. This is going to be fun to fish with this winter. Also, the anti-reverse will be great for setting the hook.

Terrific reel! This is the second reel of this model I have purchased. Having an ice reel that will free spool line, have a gear ratio for reeling in all that line, and the large spool that keeps the line straight all help me catch more fish. And the best part, the price is very good!
