I thought I would try this product as I enjoy playing my Yamaha Acoustic guitar at home, I have been using and electric acoustic and enjoy having that amplification ability.Installation was easy after I reasoned how to place it (instructions are lacking). I have heard about some having issues with height adjustment. Mine was buzzing initially, a simple removal and bending of the metal on both sides allowed a lowering to a much more desirable level.I am not pleased with the volume control, it is either on or off. I am able to use the volume on my old Gibson amp, but it would be nice to have the ability to adjust the volume on the guitar for those times when you need a little boost or decrease depending on what you are playing.I have little or no tone control, but my amplifier takes care of that. The cable situation is a bit bothersome. I would prefer to the standard quarter inch guitar plug on board. The short lightweight cord I do not care for. I have adapters and am using those to utilize my wireless or standard guitar cord while playing.I am not going to beat this product up too bad because I figured with a passive pickup you don't have a lot of control. Overall, it was easy to install with a bit of bending, which I think is too be expected. The sound quality after my height adjustment is good. There are no batteries.

Dudes and dudettes, this is literally the most amazing aftermarket pickup I have ever seen, and it costs freaking peanuts. Ridiculous deal for $20 (roughly). This is an awesome pickup for any acoustic instrument and the sound quality is just crazy for the price. I put one on my Hofner hollow body bass guitar, and I can now mix the dry/wet signals for acoustic/electric pickup signals. Sound quality on my old mandolin is incredible. If you have any kind of hollow body guitar or bass guitar, mandolin, etc, this is about as awesome of an upgrade as you’ll find in the $20-$30 price range.

bought this so my girlfriend could use her acoustic on rocksmith (it works, but you need an 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter) the one i recieved produces a very clean and clear sound on a steel string guitar. These are NOT microphonic, so they will not pick up nylon strings. overall, its not too bad, you're actually getting a little more than what you're paying for here.

This pick-up works great. Easy to install. Electrified my old Guild in minutes. Sounds great through my Acoustic amp...

This is the second of these I bought. The first I gifted to a friend to let him use his acoustic guitar with the Rocksmith game and it's tone cable. That was last summer and it has worked out fairly well for him to learn guitar. This pickup worked ok through an amp, but I wanted to use it with Rocksmith also. I needed a 1/4"-1/4" adaptor which I just had time to get today. I wish I'd purchased the adaptor sooner; the return window for this pickup just expired on Sept 12th. Using this with Rocksmith I found a short in the cable. The volume is on minimum and it squeals on it's own. I tracked it to a short in the cable which also reacts to my touching it like it were an antenna. It's so thin it cannot have but minimal shielding anyway. It's just makes horrible noise. The pickup does not work at all while it is squealing.I will need to get a 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor cable that is shielded better or an adaptor, but the other thing that happened was the ribbed ring on the 1/8" jack came off (I found it on the floor and almost kicked it away before I saw it and it would have been lost). When I threaded it back on it merely turns loosely. So the jack is going to fail very soon and I will need to do surgery on it to repair it or toss it out and use something else. It's probably something that could be repaired but will take a lot of effort.Buyer beware the cable is very flimsy and likely unshielded anyway.

UPDATE: at first, i thought this was a good pickup, especially for the low price. the problem is that you always get what you pay for.i play on my church worship team, and this pickup worked great, but only for one session. after that, the metal arm with the tone and volume knobs got very loose, and no matter how hard i tried tightening it, it wouldn't stay tight for even just one song. with it being loose, it ended up making scratching sounds, and the pickup picked that up. i don't mean it made a hum or buzzing sound, but instead it sounded like someone was at a microphone and scratching it with a nail. that's because the loose metal arm moved up and down especially while strumming, and the pickup sent those sounds into our sound system, creating a terrible distraction.i ended up having to borrow a friend's guitar because this cheap pick up created so much interference. again, you get what you pay for.

This sounds really great and I am glad I can use it on bronze strings. It's a real pain in the rear getting it in the sound hole and, yes, my guitar has been scratched, don't believe everything you read. Further It takes a lot of messing with to figure out where to put it for best sound and to where the strings will not hit it when playing on the higher frets. I had this problem. Maybe other guitars do not. But, this should not be a problem for ANY instrument. It takes some getting used to when playing with a pick to make sure to not hit is with the pick. I primarily home record, so, the computer picks up a lot even as I have been trying to adjust ambient sound controls. But, for the money, this isn't too bad. Just know there may be complications.
