  • Moss rose seed mix is an annual flowering plant growing in USDA Zones 4 - 9. It will establish quickly, bloom profusely through the summer months, later dying with the first killing frost. However, if seeds manage to fall to the bare ground beneath, the flowers can regrow the following season.

Product Description

Succulent Nature: Moss rose is a succulent, which means it has fleshy leaves that store water. This adaptation allows the plant to thrive in hot and dry conditions.

Colorful Flowers: The most notable feature of the moss rose is its vibrant, showy flowers. They come in a wide range of colors including red, pink, yellow, orange, white, and various bicolor combinations. The flowers are typically small but are produced in abundance, creating a carpet of color when planted in clusters.

Low-Growing Habit: Moss rose plants have a low-growing and trailing habit, which makes them ideal for ground cover, hanging baskets, or container gardening.

Sun-Loving: These plants thrive in full sun and require plenty of sunlight to produce their best flowers. They are well-suited for hot and arid climates.

Easy Care: Moss roses are relatively easy to care for. They prefer well-draining soil and don't require frequent watering.

Annual or Perennial: Moss roses are often grown as annuals in colder climates, but they can be perennial in warmer regions where the temperatures don't drop significantly.

Keep in mind that while these plants are relatively easy to grow, they might not tolerate frost or very cold temperatures, so appropriate care should be taken in colder climates.

Location: Choose a sunny location for your moss roses. These plants thrive in full sun, so they should receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Soil: Use well-draining soil. Moss roses prefer sandy or loamy soil that doesn't retain excess water. If your soil is heavy and clay-like, consider amending it with sand or organic matter to improve drainage.

Planting: Sow seeds in starter trays or individual pots 6 - 8 weeks before end of frost season. Press the seeds into the soil but do not cover. The seeds need light to germinate. Transplant the Moss Rose seedlings into the garden 12" apart. Space the plants about 6 to 12 inches apart to allow them room to spread and grow.

Watering: Water them sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to issues. Water the plants at the base, avoiding getting water on the leaves.

Fertilizing: Moss roses don't require heavy feeding. A balanced fertilizer can be applied every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.

Don't over-fertilize, as it might result in more foliage growth and fewer flowers.

Pruning: You can also trim back leggy growth to promote a bushier habit.

Winter Care: In colder climates, moss roses are often grown as annuals. They don't tolerate frost well. If you want to try overwintering them, consider bringing potted moss roses indoors before the first frost or taking cuttings to propagate new plants in the spring.

Propagation: Moss roses can be propagated from seeds or by taking cuttings of established plants. Seeds are often used to start new plants, and they germinate relatively quickly.

I've had bad luck with this flower, when I bought seeds before, they just refused to sprout. But with this pack almost all the seeds sprouted, I had so many little seedlings. Of course, I still ended up killing them because my thumb is as black as my heart. But if I were to try again I would definitely have another go with this seed packet again.I soaked the seeds in water like the packet suggested, and then laid them on a wet paper towel for a few days. Where I messed up was leaving them on the paper towel for too long, because they grew so fast and grew roots through the paper towel, then it was too difficult to transfer because they were so fragile and delicate. I was really not prepared for how successful it would be, but hopefully I've learned for next time.

They germinated well. I didn't plant a lot, just about 20 seeds so I could see how many popped up, and I had 18 pop up and 15 of those are growing well. I haven't seen the color of the flowers yet. Good price on the pack.

I really didn't think these Moss Rose seeds would work out. I've purchased so many seeds online over the years, and I have found that very few of them actually sprout and grow like they should. I decided to take my chances on this one by The Lucky Stars brand. It's $7.45 for the pack of10,00. I wouldn't even begin to try to actually count these very tiny seeds, but I can tell you that it looks accurate. The seeds are VERY small and dark in color. The packaging is beautiful, but I do wish it had a way to reseal it. The seeds seem to be good quality because they are sprouting, but if they don't grow well or anything goes wrong with them, I will update my review. As for the value, it seems the price for Portulaca seeds can vary from a few dollars to about @10 for 10,000 seeds. If they stay growing good like they are, I will say they are an excellent value.

I haven’t had the chance to sow these 10,000 mixed moss rose seeds yet since it’s too early in the season, but the packaging is great and the variety of colors looks promising. I’m excited to see how they grow when the weather warms up.The seeds appear to be of good quality, and I’m looking forward to adding these vibrant flowers to my garden in the near future.

I have always wanted to grow Moss Rose Flowers. When these arrived, I noticed that the packet is small. The packet doesn’t have a sell by date on it or a packed for year, or at least I couldn’t find one. I opened the packet, that has to be cut or torn open. It can’t be resealed. The seeds are tiny. There are good instructions on the back of the packet that say it takes 2-3 weeks for them to germinate and they should be lightly pressed into the soil, but not covered. I am trying to germinate these seeds with damp paper towels, but I’m not sure how that will work, since they need light to sprout. It’s only been a couple of days. I will try to update this, in a few weeks.

I wasn't thinking about the timing when I ordered these. It is still two months from Spring, so I'll have to post an update later about their germination rate. They were well packaged in a kinda plastic packet. I find it hard to believe there are 10,000 seeds, but then again they are very tiny.Unfortunately, a clump of seeds got caught in the top seal. They'll probably come loose after I play with the packet a bit, hopefully they didn't get overheated by the sealing mechanism. I'm guessing this is exactly why many companies stick with the paper envelopes for seeds.
