I recently needed to replace the lock on our community mailbox after someone made it impossible to open. Since I had no prior knowledge of the specific lock required, I turned to Amazon and found a lock set that included a variety of locking lugs in different shapes, sizes, and thicknesses to accommodate various mailboxes.I was particularly impressed by the durability of one of the lugs—it was about as thick as three-quarters stacked together! I've seen wall safes with less steel. This thing is solid—I’d imagine the mailbox itself would break before the lug gives way.The replacement process was straightforward: simply unscrew the lug from the old unit, remove the locking clip, and install the new one in reverse order. The whole process took less than five minutes. The kit includes three keys, a complete lock assembly, and five to eight different locking lugs, making it a versatile and standardized option. In the U.S., USPS regulations determine which locks can be used on certain mailboxes, and this one fits within those guidelines.A side note on security—the key bitting is quite intricate, making it resistant to bumping or raking. The springs are stiff, ensuring the pins don’t easily bounce, which adds an extra layer of protection.I’ll provide an update after a few months of use to share how well it holds up!

I needed to replace the lock on my mailbox and this one fits and works perfectly. My postman installed it fairly quickly. It is sturdy and seems like it will hold up for a pretty long time.

Very versatile lock because you can use this lock on the mailboxes for businesses and if there are different locks there you can still install this one it fits perfect the mail lady was able to install it with no problem.

When we originally moved in we got 2 or 3 mail keys.Fast forward many years, and now we have one key left. I am afraid that if I loose that one, I will have to get USPS to remove the old lock and put in a new one for probably a lot of $$$.So being proactive, I bought this kit. I did go to my mailbox first to see what type of lock it had, and it said "USPS-L-1172C" on the lock. A quick search on Amazon and i found this, and it came with 3 keys. How I installed it:Open the mailbox. You need an adjustable wrench to remove the nut holding the latch on the inside. Then pull off the metal tab and pull out the old lock. Then do the reverse with the new lock. Done, close and lock the mailbox with the new key.Note: You might want to do it when there are no neighbors around. I would feel awkward if someone came up in the middle of me disassembling the mail lock!!
