Works ok. It was a little off from a digital refractometer that I was able to test it against.I wish it had a scale for honey since they advertise it for honey but then you have to convert from brix. That's kind of a pain.

Mine looks defective and broken right out of the box. Never even got to use it once! When I looked through it, the scale was rotated. Upon looking more carefully it looks like the scale inside is detached from the barrel and is floating around. See pic. Obviously it's completely useless since it's this broken. And unfortunately, I can't return it as a Vine review item, and so it gets the most negative 1-star review.

I am reviewing the PUREFIZ "Brix" portable handheld refractometer. I ordered this refractometer to measure the moisture content of my honey, which is very important because honey should never be harvested with a moisture content above approximately 18%.Hold on a moment! A "BRIX" refractometer measures sugar content, not moisture content!Using the chart I have attached to this review (which is NOT the chart you see when you look into this refractometer!), you can convert the sugar content of honey into a good estimate of it's moisture content.When I first tested our honey, I was unable to see a reading.The problem was that I was looking for a number below 20, forgetting that I was looking at sugar content, and I should have been looking for a number ABOVE 80.So, the second time, paying attention, I was able to see the blue line way up top, measuring 81, at the high end of the 0-90 range of the scale. Unfortunately, even though the scale is supposed to go up to 90, I am really only able to see the scale up to 82 or 83. The blue line was barely visible one tick above 80.So, one star off for not being able to see the full range up to 90 in the viewfinder. But yes, this refractometer works, and once you know what you are doing, it's easy. Using the conversion (shown above), my honey has a moisture of approximately 17.5%.A friend lent me their refractometer to double check, and I was able to confirm the reading. But I was able to see the entire range of the scale up to 90 with this other model.
