Just like the ones we used to use 70 years ago. Yes, they are hard to read but mercury fever thermometers have always been hard to read; it is a learned skill. Yes, the numbers are small and hard to read but my not so good 75 year-old eyes are able to read them without glasses with a bit of practice. They are traditional mercury fever thermometers that will give you an accurate measure of temperature when used properly. Much more reliable and accurate that the modern electronic thermometers which are pretty much worthless, even the high dollar ones. One is much easier to shake down than the other. Not sure why.I was surprised I could even buy mercury thermometers any more. At my workplace where we use lots of different temperature measuring equipment for a wide variety of applications, they have been ruthlessly eliminating all mercury thermometers and any other equipment containing mercury. Do be careful not to break them, especially when shaking them down. Mercury is considered a toxic material and needs to be cleaned up and disposed correctly when spilled. Do not just sweep it up and throw it in the trash.Tired of 5 star reviews for mediocre products. Here is my rating scale:5 A truly exceptional product and/or exceptional value. Very few products are exceptional4 A good product that works well and I have no problem recommending it to others3 An okay product that pretty much does what is it should2 a poor quality product and/or poor service that I would avoid1 a truly bad product and/or a major problem with the purchase

Complete waist of money. Don't bother buying. Couldn't read the temp even with my high power magnifying glass I'm in my 50s andy eyes are fine. Unreadable even with 20/20 vision and a magnifying glass. Useless.

Illness is never fun. So when you need to check your temperature, you need a working thermometer. This one will always work, just follow the directions. I recommend having one like this as a backup, so when the battery dies in those newer versions you can still check your temperature. Not too hard to read temperatures and it's nice to have both F° and C°.Easy to use, no battery needed, nice quality, accurate.

No dead batteries when you need a thermometer. It will be there and working for you when you get sick.

Great to have an old fashioned thermometer, but because it's calibrated for degrees celcius and farenheit in tiny little print it's hard to read. However, I'm glad to have a non-digital thermometer, which is why I bought this, in spite of too high a price.

Hard to find this old timey thermometer. Most new digital ones don't always work. Highly recommend. This one works great all the time. When you're sick with fever you need a thermometer that works properly.
