If you're looking ffor a quick way to make very good stereo recordings, then this is the device that you've been looking for. Turn it on, press record and you're off to the races. The only drawback that you may encounter is when exporting the files to your computer, they will sound very quiet. I'm told that's part of the 32bit floating point deal. You'll need to use soemthing like Audacity to crank up the volume; which actually works quite well. I also chose this recorder, as I have a lot of rechargeable batteries that I can use with it and it's a snap to quickly change them. I'm quite happy with this particular purchase.

Besides it being very well recommended by many, it is small, it works great, and very simple. The on board microphones are not the best and any touching of the device can be heard on the recording. However, plug in an external microphone such as a shotgun mic and it works amazing. Good audio, live listening capability, built in speaker (not the best sounding speakers) and you can power it through a battery pack and a USB C (also battery capable) and the 1/4 inch hole on the back gives you many mounting possibilities.

The device itself records audio well, other reviewers have already gone over all the technical aspects about it that work well. What I don't like is how anytime you change the batteries you have to set the date and time all over again. I wish they would have maybe an extra slot for like a CR2032 that is there just to keep the date and time settings between battery changes. I feel like for a $100 device that isn't too much to ask for.

Overall a great recorder for the price.Handling noise: as expected, a gentle grip eliminates most of the problemBuild quality: as expected, don't drop it.Sound quality:- nice stereo field. Noise is about on par with the original H1N. I use it with external mics (LOM) and it is great with thoseMetal tripod screw fitting which is good. External mic jack socket is also metal. Unfortunately the headphone jack which is likely to be used more than the ext stereo in, is plastic. This is a shame as it's probably the one heavy-use weak point.Overall a great little recorder. I will use it for audio documentary work, and as a discreet recorder for urban use where external mics and larger recorders attract too much attention and questions.

Though this was the first mic I purchased, I watched a lot of reviews online before buying it. But it performs really well. you do have to get a dead cat, if you want good motorcycling audio, but you're done. Just choose between stereo or mono and you're good to go. It's not studio level, obviously, but it performs much better than what I expected considering the price I paid. 10/10 woudl recommend this as a first mic.

I've owned the original H1 and the H1n plus an H6 which is my primary recorder. I use the H1s for rehearsal and backup recorders.I am usually always paranoid about my recording level, not too high that I clip, not too low that I wind up with noise after amplification. No problems with this recorder. Also they fixed the battery door with this model. The H1n had an atrocious battery door that fell off with the slightest touch. This one is quite secure. It also feels tougher than the H1 or H1nThe sound out of it is fine, about what I expect from a $100 field recorder. Nothing to complain about.

The built in capsule mics are not amazing but they are more than adequate for field recording for relatively amateur usage. The 32bit float is awesome, set and forget no need to monitor constantly. If you are recording in varied environments (I use for airsoft with loud bangs and quiet sneaky bits) it’s great. I also use in conjunction with a Røde video micro to avoid the inbuilt mics and a CM5 lav by Neewer. It’s a Good, relatively cheap, versatile, small form factor, easy to use quality recorder for anyone to pick up and run with. Recommend it so far!

First off. 32 bit float... awesome. Zoom did a really good job on this product.I am a wedding videographer who uses the Zoom H1essential recorder mostly for recording directly from a band or DJ.Most of the time, the Zoom H1essential recorder I own has an attenuator cable (-35db for those wondering) with either rca, xlr and 1/4" adapters and have never had anything go wrong. You can certainly use a regular lavalier mics (I recommend Rode lavaliers for good quality sound). This device does NOT have phantom power, which I love for on-the-go filmmaking.16Gb cards gives me plenty of recording time, the battery life lasts all day long, and the headphone jack is useful for not only monitoring, but for outputting to a wireless device for in camera recording for synchronization in post production! (whew thats a mouthful)I definitely plan on buying more, Especially from Zoom!
