For as wireless as the non-nerds think the world is, those of us who work in the underbelly of IT know there's plenty of cable out there! This kit is a good basic tester that has the nice touch of including the one AA battery you need to get up and running. Most of what I work with is cat6 cable so I tried a couple of my home built and some factory patch cables. The results were exactly what I expected to see. I might be getting older and can't easily see my pair colors as easily but I can still build a mean and compliant cable.Trust me when I say that having a tester in your kit will save you tons of time eliminating what seems as obvious. If you don't think the cable is the problem because it's been in the same patch panel unmoving for years, I can tell you if I had a buck each time I made that dumb assumption, I'd have paid for this tester many times over.Pick one up and eliminate stupid problems and save yourself time. It's a good solid unit for the price.My only complaint is more of a design aesthetic, why include dust covers for the ports if they aren't actually attached to the housing?!? Sure they look good but it takes exactly 1.2 seconds to lose one in a server cabinet when you take them out. I would love to see them firmly attached so you can't drop one, but that's not a do or die for this product.

Works great and helpful to show which pins weren’t exactly punched down. Or if there is a bad wire.
