I have purchased this for our gecko multiple times and they just don't seem to last long. Hit or miss on the life span.

I purchased this lights to go inside of my cats house outside. I know it’s intended use was for but I wanted to see if I could use it to keep my fur baby warm in the winter when the nights drop down into the 30s. My kitty was toasty warm inside of his cat house. Once the temperature dropped below 30 it was not as efficient, but it serves its purpose well for what I was using it for. I also like that it lasted all winter long. I have taken the bulb out now that it’s spring time and I’m sure it will still work next winter when I put it back in. I bring my kitty back indoors when the temperature drops below 30 so I don’t know how efficient it would be to keep him warm below that temperature. I periodically checked the inside of the house by placing my hand in there and holding it and each time I could feel the warmth on the back of my hand.

These lights work just fine, although I find their price point to be higher than reasonable. One note of caution: some of the smaller bell shaped light fixtures for reptile setups will only take up to 60W. These bulbs are 75W. Because even blue lights burn fairly hot, I would absolutely NOT use these in light fixtures that aren’t clearly rated for 75W.

I live in a relatively old NYC apartment and do not control my heat, which makes keep temperatures in my reptiles’ enclosures a bit tricky. I currently use this bulb for my gargoyle gecko. They don’t typically need heat as they thrive at room temp 70-80 degree range, and can go as low as 65 at night. This bulb creates a perfect gradient in the vertical enclosure that I have. At about 18inch at the very top of the enclosure, with this bulb, temperatures don’t exceed 80 and at the bottom the temperature is the same as my room, creating a gradient for perfect reptile thermoregulation, and does not negatively effect humidity either. If you have an animal that requires arid or desert-like heat or humidity, I would recommend a much stronger wattage bulb, especially if the bulb will be closer to for a more terrestrial animal. However, if you’re just looking for a little boost in heat to offset a cooler than desired room temp, this bulb works great, produces very little light, and lasts a good amount to time before they burn out.

I use this particular brand bulb for my evening lighting in several vivariums, and have used them for 18 months now. Recently I had a few go out, and it wasn't viable for me to hit the local pet store, so I grabbed them via Amazon Prime.PROS:* Great bulb for all day heat, or evening heat* Excellent gentle "moonlighting"* Quality, lasts a very long timeCONS:* Ordered a couple, had one go out within seconds for no apparent reason (I'll bet it got knocked around in the mail). Might just pay off to order extras, you should have some on hand anyhowOTHER:* Amazon customer service is OUTSTANDING, they had a replacement bulb shipped to me the next day* When installing these I feel it's best to leave no fingerprints or other body oils on the bulb, once it's screwed in. So use a soft cloth to tighten it, or once it's screwed in, wipe it cleanVIVARIUM HEATING INFO:* Remember, proper heating for your pet (air and floor temperature) can mean the difference between not just happiness and stress, but proper digestion and life in general* For many reptiles, floor temperature is most important, followed by air temperature. You'll need to measure floor temps to make sure it's within the proper range for your pet.* One of these bulbs sitting on top of a 20L vivarium will heat the surface of a rock, which is 6" below the bulb, to about 98*. The floor temperature will be a little less. Use under-tank heaters for best results, such as * Higher wattage means more output, it also means the closer an object or pet is to the bulb, the hotter it will be for them. Keep that in mind.* Make sure your bulb is sized properly for your lighting enclosure, not only physically, but for the wattage as well. You don't want to put a 150watt bulb in a 100watt socket.
