The amount of DO helps to determine, for example, drinking water quality, the health of lakes or streams, and aquatic organism sustainability. A probe, also called a sensor or electrode, is inserted into the sample to perform the measurement, and the results appear on the meter display. Applications include sewage and water treatment plants, pollution control, fish farms, and various types of manufacturing.YSI manufactures instruments, sensors, and software for environmental water quality monitoring and testing. The company, founded in 1948, is headquartered in Yellow Springs, OH.

I'm a water scientist and you do NOT want to buy this probe. I used these awful probes for years and had nothing but issues and bad data. YSI has since been acquired by a company called Xylem, and these probes have long been phased out for good reason. This probe uses a membrane and a potassium chloride solution, which nobody uses anymore; optical DO probes are the standard now. These membrane probes drift significantly and are very unstable. I definitely recommend an optical probe. Hope this info helps you.
