If you’re looking for a ballast box that’s technically assembled but also secretly a DIY welding kit, this is the one for you. Out of the box, it looked fine—painted, solid enough, seemingly up to the task. But once it had some real weight in it, it started coming apart at the seams. Not metaphorically, either. It was literally splitting open like a cheap suitcase overpacked for a two-week vacation.Turns out, the factory thought a few sparse tack welds were enough to hold everything together. They were wrong. So instead of a functional ballast box, I found myself with an unexpected welding project. After some extensive reinforcing, actual weld beads, and a little extra steel for good measure, it finally became what it should have been from the start—sturdy, reliable, and not actively trying to fall apart.Final verdict? Great if you enjoy welding. Not so great if you expected it to arrive structurally sound.

Exactly what I needed.... little assembly, very easy! Little touch up paint added to insure rust repellent. Great price!

Nice quality for the price. No complaints. It should last for a long time.

The ballast box is well constructed. I do have a problem with it, however. It is really for a 3-point category 0 hitch that is adaptable to category 1. The lifting pins are sized for category 0 and there are sleeves to adapt them to fit category 1. Though it was not stated in the description, I adapted the box to fit my quick hitch using adapter lift pins and quick hitch bushings. I also had to modify the upper hook on my quick hitch in order for it to clear the front of the box since the tabs for the pin are so small. Since I was able to adapt it for my use, I am okay with it. If I was buying it again, I would look for a different manufacturer.

My husband bought this to put on the back of his tractor. It balances the weight and makes using it much safer.

I told myself, just buy metal and weld one yourself. I told myself, it’s just a ballast box, pay the $200 and use the time saved toward something else. The 3pt top link connection is too close to the box so the quick hitch can’t fit behind the pin. Lift pins are like Cat 0 with a cat 1 bushing. Weak. Thin metal. Every aspect of this box is incredibly cheap. I should’ve welded my own. Oh well. It works.

We installed the box as directed and loaded it with about half the weight capacity using large rocks. After three weeks and only lifting in 6-8 times, the box bent and came apart at the seam.I tried reaching out to the manufacturer, but they directed me to Amazon. Amazon agreed to a refund, but the box has to be shipped back. I was hoping the manufacturer would at least respond about the damage on the box and why/how it could have happened since the Amazon support team really knows nothing about the product. Was disappointed the manufacturer did not engage with me to discuss the issue. I need to buy a new box but will buy a different brand.

It was just what I expected. Welds looked good and fair price.
