I was reluctant to originally purchase this item however after much research and reading reviews, I decided to go for it. I followed the instructions and figured some of the poor reviews were due to people not fully paying attention to the instructions. Having said that, we set the splitter up and it worked perfectly well the first day. We spent approximately an hour on splitting some dry, seasoned wood. And the splitter worked as intended. The next day I went to start splitting again and after 2 logs the machine stopped. It turned off and would not restart. I am fairly handy and I troubleshooted everything. Still nothing. I contacted The company and I am still waiting to hear back from them. It’s been over 2 days. I also contacted Amazon and the associate stated to just return it for a refund. This item weighs 182lbs. It’s not in a box. I asked how it should be returned and they said “however I would like “. I will call UPS to check on options but this item originally arrived via a freight shipment company and the driver used a pallet jack as it came on a quarter pallet. With this being said I would not recommend buying any oversized item from Amazon unless you are sure you are going to be satisfied with it. I also would not be able to recommend this log splitter as I now have it sitting in my garage and I have returned to using my splitting axe to chop the 2 cords of wood we need for the upcoming season by hand.

I HAVE run into a few pieces that I can't just set on the splitter and split. But if I swap ends, or start working around the edges; every piece I've put on it has split.I was a little concerned about the cycle time before it arrived; but in actual use; it's no problem.I knew when I bought it; not to expect performance like a $2500.00 40 ton model. With that said; it performs better than I thought it would. I think it is an excellent value; and I would buy it again. This review is from the first day of operation. If I run into any problems; I will update this posting.

This thing is so strong the hardest part of splitting big rounds is lifting them onto the splitter.

This log splitter takes care of large logs easily. However the on off button is at the bottom of the unit and must be pressed continually for the unit to function. So it is not ergonomically positioned. You have to bend way down when working with big pieces that might be difficult to lift And it places your face near the log. Would be great if a foot pedal could be added or the button was higher. I think it would work well up on a work surface for smaller pieces. So works great but not great on the back.

Update January 2024. After speaking with c.s. in late 2023 and expressing how difficult repairing the unit is as opposed to replacing, yardmax stepped up and made the whole ordeal right to my satisfaction. So I can say they stand behind their product and honor their 2 year warranty and provide good customer service, you just need to be patient.I found another weak point in the unit in the bolts that hold the push plate on. Had one shear in half and another very close while splitting a 5 inch diameter log of seasoned oak. When I removed the other 2 bolts, they also showed wear although not as severe as other 2.I replaced them with 12.9 grade bolts so hope they will endure better.Keep in mind that this splitter has only split about 1/2 cord of seasoned oak before having all these issues.Ys0952 splitter from yardmax works well until it doesn't. When first arrived, had bent support panel, called yardmax and had replacement in 1 week, installed and used to split 1/2 cord of seasoned oak, worked well. Unit sat for a year in covered storage. Removed from storage, checked oil and topped off and worked it on seasoned oak for about 2 hours until weld broke on plate and piston junction.I year left on 2 year warranty, emailed back and forth with pics and such, new piston assembly arrived in less than 2 weeks. No instructions on replacing, but they will pay for you to have someone replace if you follow their steps exactly.I could not find a 3rd party willing to do it and I am mechanically capable so began disassembly. Emailed request for instructions, but no reply, so after a week I moved forward. This is not a job for the faint of heart, it is cumbersome and messy from hydraulic oil and you absolutely must compress the spring that piston goes into. They do not send replacement o rings or clips, thankfully I had replacements in stock in my garageAssembly is very difficult.I tested and it works thus far. If I had to do it over, I would just re weld the piston to the plate in place although you risk destroying o rings from the heat generated.I would not purchase another yardmax log splitter due to the q.c. issues of this product. Even c.s. stated in writing that the weld breaking was a rare and odd occurrence that the engineers had not seen, but the weld did not necessarily break rather than separate between piston and plate, regardless they should have replaced entire machine rather than just parts knowing how difficult the disassembly/assembly process is.Buyer beware.

I ordered this in late October and during the ordering process there was a choice of 2 methods of delivery--front porch or scheduled delivery--both free. A website glitch also disabled the info on descriptions of the 2 delivery methods. Unfortunately, the glitch actually gave me no choice and selected scheduled delivery. The splitter shipped a day or so later from Arizona and a week later was tracked to the nearest terminal 120 miles away in Charlotte. There it sat, for 3 weeks, untouched and sitting in a trailer because they didn't have enough employees to unload the trailers. It was finally transferred to another delivery company and delivered. I am very pleased with the splitter, it does a great job and is well-built. I have split seasoned wood up to 16 inches in diameter and no problems. This electric splitter will be easier to maintain than a gas engine-driven splitter. Just be sure NOT TO CHOOSE SCHEDULED DELIVERY! I was caught between the 2 shippers and Amazon, each passing the blame on just who was responsible. I spent approximately 5 hours on the phone trying to track and determine what the hold-up was. I finally got someone at Amazon CS that was a big help and got the ball rolling. It's heavy, stable, well designed and well built. Here are a couple photos of the stand that I built for it.
