The standard Yamaha student mouthpiece is the 4C which has a 1.05 mm tip opening and requires a 3 to 3.5 strength reed. I bought this 6C because it matches the specs on my Selmer HS2-Star: 1.2 mm tip opening, requires a 2.5 to 3 strength reed, and produces a fuller, more dynamic sound.
