First of all the most import thing for me is the short shank Yamaha 11E4 will fit at least one old King 1930's vintage cornet and one 40's vintage King. Since I have very limited resources I've not tried it on the 12 million other possible combinations of brand, age and model of horn. The 11E4 is reportedly a lot like the Denis Wick 4B; I don't know since I've never played a Denis Wick. I do know this is a really deep cup which gives my old King a much phatter, less trumpety sound than I'd get otherwise. So this is my current favorite mouthpiece for playing the old Arban solos and for the blues.Having said that, in my opinion this is not a warm-up mouthpiece nor one for people who haven't played brass for at least a few years. For me it is harder to warm up with than a standard Bach 7C (like the Yamaha 11C4) and harder to hit high notes than a Bach 10 1/2 C. But it makes up for those shortfalls by making it much easier for me to bend the notes. If you've ever played or heard the old David Rose song "The Stripper" you know what I mean by bending notes.According to the Yamaha web page their 11E4S has an inner rim diameter of 16.46 mm, a semi-flat contour, a standard thickness, a deep cup depth and a 4.20 mm throat with a standard backbore. Now, one problem with posting a mouthpiece review is that everybody's lips are different. Lips come in wide, narrow, weak, strong, and even a few collagen injected trout-pouts! So all my mouthpiece reviews reflect my own personal experience and nothing about anyone elses', especially any poor soul who wants to play a horn after they've bought a trout-pout.
