Considering that the price of 360 hard drives is still higher per unit of memory than solid-state computer hard drives, it is not unreasonable to expect that the data transfer kit would be included with the unit- as it should have been. What I received was a Microsoft-manufactured hard drive in a generic box, with no transfer kit... I don't care what the box looks like, but what is the point of selling the hard drives without the transfer kit? Additionally, there are multiple reviews of this specific product which state that the transfer kit WAS included, which I find to be very misleading- either the reviews are bogus, or kit-included hard drives are being sold under the same heading as non-included units. The main product page does not provide that information, making the purchase a crapshoot- I would not have bought this product for the listed price if I'd known it would not include the cable. For that matter, there's no way of knowing for sure that the hard drive as delivered is even the new unit that I paid for- without a certificate or the original packaging, the retailer could be sticking refurbished or used units in these boxes for all anyone knows. The seller's good word is not enough assurance of the condition and authenticity of expensive electronics. This isn't a dollar store thumbdrive we're talking about here.Bottom line, either the main page needs to include at least a warning that the product may or may not include the transfer kit, or the listings need to be divided so that folks know what they're getting in the package.

This is definitely the cheaper route to get the elite status xbox if you are upgrading, but if you are buying one for the first time you might as well take advantage of the price drop and get the elite to start. The upgrade was easy from my 20GB to this 120GB drive, however there are a few drawbacks to using the kit microsoft sends along with this hard drive for transfer.First off, you cannot copy, modify, or choose which files go onto the new drive. It literally copies everything to the new drive and automatically erases everything off the old. So much for using my old hard drive as a backup in case this one crashes, at least with this kit anyway. It also warns you that some files may get lost in the transfer, and they are not responsible if any lost saved data.Just to be safe, I backed up all my saved game files on a memory card before the transfer, and wrote down the sizes for each section in the system memory tab on the dashboard. That way I could tell, if the sizes were different, that some data was lost in the transfer.Unfortunately, the new drive had a ton of demos that added to the sizes of each section of my memory. I deleted all of the newly added material, and was able to compare the size difference from the two drives and luckily nothing was lost in the transfer. If you don't want to go through all of that, do not use the microsoft transfer kit that is included and try some of the third party transfer devices on amazon that got good reviews. All in all I came out fortunate and now I have a ton of space to download games and such to my hard drive without worrying about deleting to save space.

There is not much to say about this product besides that it expands the memory on your 360 unit. Shipping was fast and product came intact. It came with the transfer cable and within in 2 hours, all 20gb were transfered to the new 120gb harddrive. I booted it up and all my information was copied exactly. No problems so far. I would recommend this product. The only downside is of course the outrageous price.UPDATE 3/2/11: Drive is continuing to work, transfered all my data from my 20gb drive. Transfer went perfect, all my info was still in tact. Drive hasn't failed on me, besides being overpriced by Microsoft, it is a good product.

I recently purchased this 120gb hard drive and im really happy with it. The tranfer cable and cd it came with made it one the easiest installations ive ever done. I had the 20gb hard drive which worked great and i thought i didnt need more space but then i heard about the new xbox dashboard thats coming in november 08 and i said i have to get a bigger hard drive. I have been reading alot of reviews and i see people writing "I dont need all that extra space" but i dont think people realize that after the new dashboard upgrade one of the new features is youll be able to download any of your 360 games into your hard drive so that your 360 will be quieter, protect your disk drive from scratching since no game will be spinning while youre playing and the 360 can be cooler cause its using less power since theres no game spinning in the system. With the 20gb hard drive you will probably be able to fit 2-3 games since its really only 12 gb your left with after installation not 20gb. The 120gb after installation is 107gb but its a huge difference. One game download will take up 4-5 gbs so if you have 12gb that will leave you with about 2 gb if you install 2 games. Thats not including if you want to download demos and music. So I definitely think its worth the money because youll be able to save your entire game library in it come november. Remember look up the new dashboard update info and then you will see that you will want to purchase this hard drive too.

After living since launch with the stock 20GB drive, constantly cleaning off old demos and media files, the new Xbox update adding the ability to copy games to the hard drive finally pushed me over the edge and made me buy this 120GB drive. So far it has worked great. Migrating data off the old drive was as simple as putting in the included transfer disk and hooking a cable up to the new drive. It took about an hour.My primary reason for wanting this was not the increased speed of loading games off the hard drive instead of disc (marginal in most cases) but the quieter operation without the drive spinning all the time. I have a launch unit, so it has one of the original loud DVD drives. Also I assume less drive use will generate less heat and decrease the likelyhood of a red ring of death, but who knows.
