This was a breeze for me to replace. I wasn't sure exactly which of the 3 pieces I needed so I chose to buy the combo to cover all of my basis.

I doubt if this is really OEM, but the fit was perfect. Arrived fast and well packed. DON'T TOUCH THE GLASS TUBE WITH YOUR FINGERS.

I did install easily. It takes around 30 minutes to start working. I notice a strong smell like other customers mentioned like burn plastic. I didn’t notice this ever with my old GE genuine defroster. The most easy explaination it is very powerful and it doesn’t respect the power elements as the original part, it should not be heat more than required or some isolation varnish on the element. It is really bad smell. Even inside of ice cream box. I did use it for 5 days and I notice while removing that is not burning evenly throughout the element.I read also many reviews saying the longevity is very short from some weeks to some months and in the most of case less than one year. I didn’t find any indication about warranty. Even a asked on forum and nobody knows really. My GE genuine worked for 17 years. So 3-4 times buying this cheap parts over the time will be the same that buy the GE genuine. In addition you don’t have to replace it every time. The calcul is simple. I did order genuine at my local parts store.

Originally just replaced the defrost limit switch since IME that's the typical failure part. But after the freezer iced over again I figured best to just gt the whole kit. Sure enough it was the thermistor that was faulty. Original was only had a resistance of 3-4KΩ in ice water. Defrost was never turning on because mainboard was being told the evaporator coils were already too hot. New one tested correctly at ~16kΩ at freezing (~6kΩ at ambient) which is correct specs. Original heater was pretty black but otherwise still working, replacement measured ~20Ω, same as OEM. Based on other reviews don't have much faith in it's longevity but saving the original as a backup. Even if the heater fails early, kit is still worth it for the other parts.

I ordered this because of the quick delivery but within a day of installing it, there was a very strong electrical smell, similar to some other reviews. It was so bad that we couldn't use the fridge. I took the heater out and it was definitely the source of the smell. Upon closer inspection, the original GE heater has ceramic on each end of the heating element, where as this one is plastic (source of smell) and heating element looked charred. I decided to order an original GE heater and now the fridge is working great and no smell.I can't recommend this one.

It works on my GE refrigerator. My refrigerator is not cooling, and ice is built up in the back panel of the freezer. Easy to install. It took me around 30 minutes for the replacement. I didn't install the temperature sensor and the thermostat, but I love to have them for back up or future needs.

Replaced ours with this thinking the defrost element was why our freezer kept freezing over, and was probably a part of why, but the final fix was a new motherboard. Then I knew this worked because it had a new burn-in smell that lasted a few days and then went away. Fridge works great now!So if you replace all the parts this comes with and you still freeze over, get a new motherboard and you should be set.

This picture was taken after only 3 days of use … Giving 2 stars since the thermostat fixed my problem.
