I bought it because it was aesthetically appealing to me and I liked the idea of the grate to keep the cats from digging. It’s a winner in both of these points. It’s my first foray into cat grass so I’m not sure how long it should last; but it seems healthy and then starts to wilt and seems to take a long slow decline. I’m at the end of my second round since I bought it. You can see there’s still some green left and you can see the cat’s tail, as he still loiters around the grass nibbling. He really likes the cat grass and sometimes would rather nibble on it than eat his wet food for dinner. I wish it would replenish itself and just grow like a plant, because it does seem like a lot to replant every 6-8 weeks or however long it is. Anyways, the box is pretty handy but I wish it had drainage holes because I’m afraid of overwatering it, but I don’t think I have done that yet.

I loved the first one so much, I bought a second one. The cats love it. I also bought seed here this time and it's amazing as well! I got HOME GROWN Organic Cat Grass Seeds Pack (8oz) Non-GMO Heirloom Cat Grass Seeds for Indoor & Outdoor Cats -Premium Oats and Barley Grass Seed Pack - Hairball Relief. Check it out!

I’m buying a second one because my cats love it so much, they seem disappointed when the grass inevitably needs replaced and reseeded and they miss out for a few days. I have 4 cats and they all graze from it daily. Just don’t overwater it and you won’t get mold or early rot. This product is sturdy, well made, and a good value. The larger size is necessary for my multiple cats. So much more cost effective than buying $10 tiny pots every couple of weeks at the pet store! With purchasing an additional pot, I’ll seed the new one as the current plants start to yellow, hoping to provide the kitties with fresh greens always.

This cat grass container is cute and well built. There is a plastic container that sits inside of the decorative blue wooden one. The metal grid slides into a slot in the wooden holder and slides across and over the plastic growing container. I had no issue growing cat grass in it and my cats love it since they love cat grass. My only gripe is when the grass is past its freshness and is dying, there is no way to slide the metal grid off so you can dump the old grass. You have to cut the grass down as close to the metal grid as possible and then you can slide the grid out. It’s awkward.

This product works well! The wood is painted, but not finished or sealed so the texture is pretty rough. The little metal piece that covers the grass, is finished and there are not any hard parts; so I don't have any concern of the metal scratching or rusting. It's a pretty tight fit in the slot; so I have no concern of the metal cover slipping out or being pawed out by my kitty. The plastic inner part is very sturdy! And once you put it in the wooden box my kitty has no chance of knocking it over; even if he rubs up against it!

I bought this product for my dogs. I repainted it because the blue is so bright. I then put a water protective coating over the entire box. The only issue I have is when you pull the grate out, if you have to do something, you pull the grass out with it or it gets stuck under the grate, to which a tweezer was used to get them out. Unfortunately, my dogs are unable to eat it off the grate because they rip the seeds out as well. So I’m having to trim the grass with scissors and feed it to them. At least I get to enjoy the green growing grass and the wonderful smell of freshly cut grass.Follow up months later: I tried growing wheatgrass in it. The only thing that happened. Was it molded. I couldn’t keep the soil moist enough without molding. If I didn’t water it, the grass died. So I painted it entirely and now use just the box on my counter to put keys, Wallets, and phones in.

Build quality is very sturdy, the wire grid helps to keep my cat from digging out too much dirt. It's easy to take apart and clean. The plastic insert is a little tough to take out when it's full but you figure out the trick pretty quick.
