About this item

  • Note:This capacitor tester is used for testing the internal resistance of the capacitor, not for testing capacitance value.
  • Our ESR meter changes the square wave to a 100 KHz sine wave, eliminating the high-frequency components in the square wave, otherwise it will be conducted to the test line and capacitor, affecting the measurement results.
  • The V2 is a popular and versatile capacitance meter, primarily designed for testing and analyzing various types of resistors, capacitors, and inductors. It's commonly used by electronics hobbyists, technicians, and engineers for troubleshooting, quality control, and characterization of electronic components.
  • The smaller impedance allows the capacitance multimeter to measure the true series resistance value more accurately. Using this theory, we can measure whether a capacitor is good/bad or good.
  • This ohm meter only applies less than 15mV DC or peak-to-peak across a good capacitor, so we can use it as a circuit test.
  • Capacitance meters have double terminals for convenient and quick check of capacitor internal resistance, printed meter for quick check. Equipped with SMD alligator clips, the test is more accurate. The surface is copper-plated, anti-corrosion and anti-oxidation.

Capacitor Tester Meter
  • This ohm meter multimeter is a precise ESR meter, making it sensitive to measurements, which will not affect usage. Also, the testing environment may have an impact on readings, like ungrounded power lines or electromagnetic interference.

  • Using longer test leads requires special shielding to eliminate EMI(Electromagnetic Interference); otherwise, measurement errors can be significant. Thus, 15cm standard test leads are a better choice for a professional capacitor tester meter!

  • 1. Short the test leads of milliohm meter to eliminate lead resistance.

    2. Press and release ZERO; then the display will show ZERO, just wait for it to disappear.

    3. If using an array socket, short the appropriate pins to zero it.

  • The MESR-100 ESR meter has strong anti-magnetic and anti-interference capabilities to make sure the accuracy and stability of test results. No need to worry about interference during testing!

  • To stabilize capacitance meter readings:

    1. Avoid high-power devices & strong EMI areas.

    2. Short-circuit test leads to zero the meter before testing.

    3. Use short test leads.

    4. Keep the test circuit stable and avoid movement during measurement.

I didn't have a tester in my toolkit, so I decided to give this one a try when it came up in my Amazon Vine list. It includes all the cables for testing continuity or capacitors, and the build quality seems fine for the price. The only reason I knock a star is because the instructions are a bit lacking, but that often seems to be the case for products from China that are translating their instructions to English. I would say that if you are very familiar with these kinds of tools and know what you're looking to do, this would be fine. But, if you're a less experienced tech like I am, you might be better served by finding another model that has better instructions.

I'm an electronics hobbyist - I have an engineering background, but in electronics, I dabble, tinker, and experiment. I have always avoided RF and AC in general, for a lot of reasons - I just stick with low voltage DC, frankly, mostly digital circuits (the vast majority of my analog circuit knowledge/experience is setting pull-ups, pull-downs, crowbars, flyback diodes, and other stuff like that - i.e. the stuff you have to do to make a digital device "talk" to something. Relatively recently, I got into ham. I got myself an inexpensive VNA, and an inexpensive spectrum analyzer - and I spent a couple hundred bucks on a handheld LCR meter. It's great and all - absolutely nothing to complain about but the price - but I really, really wish I had found THIS device first - it's all I really truly needed at this stage and skill level.I would strongly recommend this device to new hams, before you go and spend a ton on something fancier - this might be all you need.

This ESR meter is in the crop of newer cheaper electronic test instruments which were mostly limited to expensive electronics labs till few decade ago. Sure, this is not perfect by those lab standards but good enough for most hobbyist.ESR meter basically use a very low voltage AC signal (100kHz) to measure reactance of circuit. The 15mv applied to the test probes cannot break the semiconductor junctions and thus allow you to measure the capacitor reactance or ESR in-circuit. This is best for finding faulty electrolytic capacitors. In most cases there are no low value resistors in parallel to those capacitors so you can test them easily but you must keep in mind that any parallel resistor (specially low value) in circuit will reduce the reactance.Inductor: Since this measure reactance you can also use it for measuring small inductors and non-electrolytic capacitors as well, just calculate the inductance/capacitance value back by using the 100kHz frequency in reactance formula. Keep in mind this device max reactance range is 100 ohm, so you can't measure anything with >100 ohms reactance @ 100kHz. In my test it was very close to actual values.Lead length: I have seen many complaint and even suggestions for using a longer lead for convenience. You got to understand it measures reactance and is very sensitive to any stray voltage or EMF around, so you should not use longer lead with this or any ESR meter unless you use proper shielding and know exactly what you are doing. In this range of measurement longer lead without proper shielding can add too much error.Overall this is a good value ESR meter that deserves a spot in your tools set if you don't have one. It performs as expected with the multiple probes and on-board socket options. It can make your life easier for your electronics projects and repairing.

I was expecting this tool to measure capacitance. Unfortunately, it measures resistance, and does not offer anything more useful than I can get from my Fluke multimeter.I will say, it is an effective tool to help determine if a capacitor is functioning properly in your circuit. I like to repair retro game consoles, which have a host of cap issues. This would totally do the job, however, I grab my Fluke every time because I like the needle-point test leads far better than the clips this comes with.Nice looking screen (could be better, but one doesn't typically test a circuit board outside). Build quality is okay. I like that I have a way to measure ESR now; I've wanted that for building loudspeaker crossover circuits. Overall, this is a fair value but wasn't exactly what I was looking for.

This MESR-100 V2 has been super helpful in troubleshooting some tricky circuitry. I've been checking these capacitors, and this meter makes it so easy to get readings, even in tight spaces. It's a real lifesaver for finding faulty components. The automatic range switching is a great feature, no more messing around with manual adjustments. Glad I picked this one up.This meter is surprisingly sturdy for the cost. It's easy to use and seems to give accurate readings. The alligator clips and SMD test clips are a nice bonus too.

Look I'm not working in a lab. I am working in my dusty garage on a work bench and mostly just for fun. The fact that a tool like this is even available for me at a reasonable price is amazing. I got into hobby electronics and build circuits in the early 90's and still love to tinker. When I saw that a tool like this was available, I jumped at the chance to try it. I have no doubt that like many of my hobby grade tools that it's not perfect, but it certainly works well enough to get a hack like me where I want to go. I say well done. Its a nice little trouble shooting tool added to my kit. I am enjoying having it on my bench.
