There’s nothing worse than good products getting bad reviews as a result of consumers blind buying and or setting unrealistic expectations as a result of their failure to understand what it is they're ordering despite the products VERY clear product description. This digital viewfinder by Fotogear is an excellent product that's both well designed and well made and is of excellent value in more ways than one!Prior to ordering this product I thoroughly read the product page and watched the product marketing video and was very impressed and now that I have this beauty in my hands I am not the least bit disappointed for it's everything the well executed product marketing lead it to be.This product by Fotogear is soooo much more than a "selfie screen" but we all know how people LOVE screens and selfies so the marketing of such makes sense but with such a heavy emphasis on selfie this marketing will attract the wrong demographic of consumers for this "selfie screen" is a digital viewfinder. This digital viewfinder by Fotogear is an excellent alternative to a field monitor screen AKA Video monitor Assist and was designed with smartphones in mind. This digital viewfinder and field monitors alike are best suited for content creators with above intermediate skills. Such a tool easily allows content creators to see what the lens sees; what is being recording without compromising the shot or your posture. Additionally it makes framing your shots so much easier while eliminating the need to have to keep walking back and forth. And best of all this wireless digital viewfinder by Fotogear unlike many field monitors gives one the ability to completely detach this viewfinder from your device which makes this a game changer for everyone who spends a lot of time recording and or photographing themselves for it gives one the ability to see when they're in or out of frame in real time. The build quality of this digital viewfinder is top notch. As it is VERY clear by the product images and video not to mention the written product description this viewfinder by design is smaller than the iPhone and is just about half the weight of my iPhone 16 Pro Max; this digital viewfinder weighs less than 5oz. The weight and size of this device no doubt make it portable. The screen is 3.97" which is larger than most screens on digital cameras; that's even including the multi thousand dollar cameras. The listed Resolution: 480x800 pixels is clearly less than that of any smartphone in todays market so it's no surprise that the image quality isn't nearly as good as your recording device but the same can be said about any and EVERY viewfinder. Viewfinders don't record and are simply giving you an insight in real time as to what is being recorded so the fact that it's of lower image quality is of zero concern. The quality is still quite good and is certainly good enough to be a useful versatile visual aid.The overall design is sleek, timeless and well thought out. It's of the perfect weight and thickness. If the product was any thinner getting the needed grip/leverage to break it's magnetic hold would be more challenging and a thinner product would make it less durable and more susceptible to damage in the case that it's dropped.Lastly to make connectivity as EASY AS POSSIBLE Fotogear literally made connecting to a device a HUGE part of their marketing campaign by creating a video that walks you step by step and regardless of your native tongue it's pretty easy to follow but if the video isn't enough this product comes with a VERY easy to follow multi language instruction manual.....this product has been on the market since 2024 so it's VERY likely that your phones "screen monitoring" button might not be where the instructions say it is.......that's no fault of this product or Fotogear for they can't keep up with every phone update/software change.Problem solve: "How to turn on screen monitoring"On the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Screen Monitoring isn't listed when you swipe down and that's due to the change of Apples IOS 18 software. After swiping down press and hold the screen, you will then be prompted to "add a control"which will then allow you to add screen monitoring.

To get it set up and operational was super easy. Image resolution was great too. But it just kept disconnecting from my phone. It would mirror for about 1-2 minutes and then spontaneously stop. Too frustrating when trying to film content.

I was really excited to use this when it arrived. It came in a nice box. The screen display is half the size of my phone, and on the heavier side. Powered on and the instructions that came up are in a different language. You can change it to english by following the instructions on the manual or just read the manual on how to go about using this. In order for me to pair it with my phone I have to use/pair it with smart view (android). Paired easily. Then I have to pair thru bluetooth the separate remote button (need 1 CR battery included) to take pictures. Best way to use this as selfie is having the screen display on the back of phone attached with provided magnet ring, and you can see the image on the rear camera on the screen display. The image is clear but kind of small. You can click on the bluetooth remote to take a photo. Or in my case, one of the side buttons of my phone. I think this is rechargeable with provided cable. The main problem I encountered is the pairing/connection is weak- it keeps on dropping then you have to pair again. Now this is while I am using both to take a selfie. I don't know maybe in time, it will hold the connection but for now, it's frustrating to keep on pairing it. The device is bulky so it's not something that you'd carry around with your phone. I like the idea of taking selfie with rear camera as it has higher resolution but the controls to adjust image are all on the other side of the camera so a bit tricky to reach when taking a selfie.
