Steps to Repair Wicker Furniture
Step 1. Identify the damaged wicker
Assess the damages you need repair and determine how extensive the damaged wicker is and thus how much wicker replacement material you need.
Step 2. Find proper replacement wicker
Your wicker furniture can be made of either natural or synthetic plastic wicker. So identify what type of material of your damaged wicker is first, and then measure the size (width / thickness etc) of your damaged wicker and then get a match as close as possible. It might be difficult to find a perfect match especially for the color but in most cases a pretty close match wicker material can always blends in nicely with your originals.
Step 3. Remove damaged wicker
Observe and take note of the original weave pattern in case you might not recognize it when you weave the new wicker back in. Now start from the first damaged wicker strand, cut it and pull it out with your hand or other proper weaving tools. Our stainless steel weaving tool ( ASIN B0B3XSPZ18 ) can be a very handy option to assist you for the weaving process.
Step 4. Weave in the first replacement wicker
Thread the first replacement wicker strand into the furniture. Starting from a point that is less visible. Using your fingers or other proper weaving tool, gently weave the wicker in and out of your furniture. Follow the original weaving pattern for the best result.
Step 5. Trim one end
Once the new wicker strand woven in, leave at least two inches of extra length on one end. Then go to the other end of the new wicker strand and cut it so that it can overlap the loose end of the original wicker. Line up the excess strand so the end stretches to the center of the next perpendicular wicker section. Then, trim off any extra wicker strand with your pliers or scissors.
Step 6. Apply glue
Squeeze the glue onto both ends of new wicker strand as well as the orignal. Then, tuck both wicker ends beneath the perpendicular section of material and keep both ends overlapping and sticking to the perpendicular section together for about 15~30 minutes.
Step 7. Trim, weave and glue on the other loose ends
Repeat this process on the other end of the replacement wicker strand. Do not sit on or use the furniture until the glue has enough time to dry, seal, and cure completely. Refer to your glue's manual for the proper time.
Step 8. Complete the rest work.
Continue removing and replacing the other damaged wicker strands. Just like the former process, always remove one damaged strand at a time, and replace it before removing other damaged pieces. We recommend to replace all damaged strands in one direction first, before going the opposite direction.

Blended well with old wicker, and was easy to do, once you get in a groove. This material is synthetic wicker, but feels sturdy, and nice on arm rests. Also repaired ottoman, and holds my large 220lb body sitting on it.
