I have never written a review before, but I felt so strongly about the poor quality of this product that I had to write one. I originally bought this to fit over my closet door in my new apartment. The sides were easily assembled because you only had to snap three pieces together. After laying one of the sides face up, I went to secure the poles into the openings (you simply push down until it is snug in the hole), and the poles would not stay in place. The poles that were in the openings on the side stayed in okay, but the ones that went into the foldable racks did not stay upright at all, and they were not secure in the openings. Once I had managed to get most of the poles upright, the instructions said to take the other side piece, lay it on top of the poles, and fit the poles into the new openings. No matter what I tried, they would not fit in. I was lucky if I got two to stay in at the same time. The poles that went in the foldable racks were not long enough to reach the other opening, so those were not usable. Then we couldn't even get the main poles to stay in the other side of the rack. Not sure how this claims to be "easy to assemble."Then, as we were trying to disassemble the rack to return, the plastic was easily breaking, and one of the foldable rack arms nearly fell off. Extremely disappointed in this product, especially since I was so looking forward to being able to store my boots and shoes on a single rack in my closet!

I just opened and put the rack together today. I do see what some of the reviews mean when they say it’s flimsy, but I don’t think this would be a problem if you put together the product correctly. I would recommend putting the rack together on hard floors, rather than carpet. The plastic makes it hard for you to put the rods in without a stable surface. Really make sure that all the rods are all the way in. Also, the hinges seemed a little big, but you can adjust them to fit your door (if it’s smaller than the hinges). However, the way the hinges are, you have to have them facing the direction the door closes in. The back of the hinges bulk outward so they will make it a little harder to close your door if you have that part in between the door and the doorframe. This is only important if you want to put your shoe rack in a specific place. I wanted the shoe rack on my room door facing inside my room, but because of the hinges, the shoe rack would’ve face on the outside of my room. I ended up just moving the shoe rack onto my closet door, but it’s something to think about. Ultimately, you could have the shoe rack facing whatever direction, but it bothers me if the door doesn’t open/close smoothly. The shoe rack also comes with these tiny but super sticky Velcro to put between the bottom of the rack and the door. I noticed that my rack didn’t sit evenly on my door (probably due to how to put it together or something), but the Velcro fixed this problem. Overall, it’s a good shoe rack if you have a lot of shoes and little space. I’ll update if it starts falling apart.Edit: it’s been about 3-4 months. The shoe rack is still holding. But just make sure you have the bottom of the rack secured to the door. The weight of your shoes will push against the door and the rack will end up lifting forwards and your shoes on the bottom shelves will fall through. I added an image showing this

Easy to put together and holds lots of shoes. I especially like the fact that each ‘shelf’ can be flipped up allowing for taller boots and shoes to be stored. It easily fits on a door in my storeroom and allows shoes to be easily seen/found and also allows the shoes to dry quickly. I am extremely pleased with it... it has solved the messy pile of shoes in the hallway problem!

This is my first review written on Amazon even though I bought lot's of products in the past. I received the rack this morning, it was fairly easy to install. I went slowly and it took me about 20 min . As was said in previous review, make sure you have a hammer to ensure the pegs are firmly in place in socket. The end result is great. I put 25 pairs of women shoes (including boots) and I have room for a few more. I placed the rack on the inside of a closet door and it is saving a lot of floor space. It also looks very neat. I am very happy with this purchase and definitely recommend it!

I believe this is my first review on any product I've purchased from Amazon . . . an indication of how impressed I am! The Whitmor rack was a recent replacement for an over-the-door wire shoe rack. I had slowly transitioned from shoes with a narrow, not-so-wide footprint to more casual, wider shoes - the wire "hangers" for each shoe were close enough together that they were crowding the shoes and causing them to rub against each other. I decided to research what else was out there and found this to be a good alternative, keeping in mind that I probably wouldn't be able to fit 3 pair on each shelf, but it would still allow more pairs than my previous rack (a good thing, as I LOVE shoes).I received this in perfect condition, and also read prior reviews that a rubber mallet and a hard surface were important. Even though my dear husband offered to put it together, I tackled it myself. First of all, DO find yourself a hard service and pound those steel bars into the sides with a mallet - important to get them in all the way. After both sides were attached, also using the mallet, it hung on the back of my closet door just fine. I had done some pre-measuring prior to purchasing, and it was about the same width as my old rack, just longer - the hanging hardware also turned out to be similar. The only issue I noticed after hanging was that it seemed a bit "tweeked" or twisted, not laying flat against the door. It does come with some door pads that prevent scratching and also allow the rack to "stick" to the door, but I decided not to use them. I've had this rack about two months now, and am very pleased. It still doesn't lie flush against the door (about 1.5" out from the door at the bottom), but I don't find that to be a big consideration. I have two pair on each shelf (a couple have an additional shoe at one end), and the weight of the shoes keeps the rack firmly situated in one place - I can open and close the door without the rack or shoes moving at all. I believe my old rack held 18 pair of shoes - even with limiting myself to 2 pair on each rack, it holds 22 pair. And no more crushed, tightly squeezed together shoes - I would definitely purchase this again. Hmmm, maybe I should see if we have another available door in our house suitable for a second rack . . .
